White people will often say they are “spiritual” but not religious. Which usually means that they will believe any religion that doesn’t involve Jesus.

Popular choices include Buddhism, Hinduism, Kabbalah and, to a lesser extent, Scientology. A few even dip into Islam, but it’s much more rare since you have to give stuff up and actually go to Mosque.

Mostly they are into religion that fits really well into their homes or wardrobe and doesn’t require them to do very much.

Ha! this is so funny

Atheism. Coffee table booksmarts, stolen ideas, colonial attitudes, pseudo-”humanist” politics–Atheism. How it didn’t crack the top thirty of a stuff white people like list…well, is beyond this Atheist.

Agnosticism totally pwns atheism as far as religious (non-religious?) views white people have.

Sure, but then we’re forgetting Moonies, New Agers, Spiritualism, and a hodge-podge of other American cults in their thousands. I mean the Mormons even got their own state, for crissakes! McGod bless Uhmericuh.

Retards who are going to deny this post:

He’s talking about upper-middle class urban white people. The fags you see sitting in Starbucks near the local university and listening to indie music.

Not Middle-American white people.

It’s primarily about class.

What kind of class? Stereotypes on what faith you are based on class applies: Rich people=Episcopalian/agnostic, Upper-middle class: Born Jewish/gotten into Buddhist, Middle class people=Conservative Lutheran/not dogmatic, Lower-middle-class: Ethnic Catholic/born-again Christian, and Poor people=Fundamentalist/southern Baptist. +

Buddhism is not actually a religion.

Well its perspective and opinion but I think its more an ideology than a religion…

A religion without the same idea of “god” but the principle of spiritual forces are at work, that people can have an afterlife and Buddha himself is idolized in statues, paintings or in prayer. State atheism (i.e. Leninism, Marxism and Stalinism) and the cult of personality (i.e. Hitler, Mussolini and Kim Jong-il) may share the same traits of a god-less religion. Never let a madmen enter the realm of politics, yet we always tolerated madmen establishing new religions by the likes of L’Ron Hubbard of the Scientology corporation. +

there is nothing more white than christianity, it is that ultimate white people religio, i never see people convert from christianity to eastern religions

Damn you’re stupid. Christianity IS AN EASTERN RELIGION .. in fact it originated like 50 miles from my home country in the middle east. The Romans hijacked the religion.

Anyway, I go to the mosque here, and theres like 50% of them men and women (white americans) are converts from Christianity to Islam.

Dude .. my mum was Christian and she converted to Islam.

It does happen, just because you dont see it, doesnt mean it’s not there. Stop being so ignorant and open your eyes to the real world. Trying looking past the Western propoganda and media and form a more balanced opinion

white people messed up christianity by misrepresenting it all over the world. christianity began in the middle east, and it was not white people who began it; it was disaffected jews.

another thing to ponder is what is white. yeah of course nordics(swedes, germans, british, dutch etc.) like europeans and spanish people who are ancestors of celts(irish, scots etc.) are the main thing when you say white. in america and europe white is considered arabs, jews, iranians. blacks are african american, asians are indian(india, pakistan, bangladesh), oriental people

so according to this jews and arabs are white people…i wonder ow jews classify themslves? white? non white? they share same genetic as arabs anyway right?

The entire Arabian Peninsula was a part of Africa first off.. we just attained certain physical features to adapt to where we live. So how we’re “white” according to you is illogical, and no. Arabs do not share genetics with Jews in any close manner (technically we all do if you go far back enough) but the Father of Arabs is Ismael, the father of Jews is Isaac, and we all share the grandfather Abraham.

“…Arabs do not share genetics with Jews in any close manner (technically we all do if you go far back enough) but the Father of Arabs is Ismael, the father of Jews is Isaac, and we all share the grandfather Abraham….”

By this statement alone you are contradicting yourself jaymelz. If Abraham is the grandfather of of arabs and jews (actually he is the father of both religions), then GENETICALLY, arabs and jews are about as close as, say, brothers!

the original jewish people from the old testament are mostly african (egyptian to be exact). Read the end of Genesis, the first book of the bible, and the next book, Exodus, and you will find out that the jews, under the leadership of Jacob, went into egypt to escape famine. They had a few hundred in the tribe going into egypt.

when they left egypt, some 450 years later, their numbers were in the millions, according to the bible. Now the only way you can get a million people from an original number of several hundred is: that original several hundred isrealites (jews) HAD to intermingle with the egyptian people.

thus, the original isrealites leaving egypt were african and semitic mix, NOT european. the jews of today like to think of themselves as white, but their history shows otherwise.

P.S: isrealites were/are a semitic people, just as the arabs are semitic people. One can be semitic and NOT jewish, thus, when one hears the word anti-semitic, one can say that anti-arab is anti-semitic just as if you were anti-jewish.

Much like “white people,” the people who replied to this post are just commenting on other groups of people they claim to have some expertise on. As a Jewish Studies scholar, I advice you to actually research your claims that the original Jews were “African,” in the sense that people think of that term today. Middle Eastern would be a more appropriate term. Yes, modern day Jews (Ashkenazi, Sephardic, or Mizrahi) are very genetically similar to other Arabs in the area (such as Lebanese, Jordanians, and Palestinians) as has been proven by numerous genetic studies.

A comment on the last post: You spelled Israelites wrong. Do not claim that the “Jews of today like to think of themselves as white” when you are not a Jew (obviously) and have no proof of your claim. I would think that most Jews think of themselves as just that, Jews, and perhaps the region their ancestors emigrated from (Eastern Europe, Middle Eastern etc).

Jews aren’t considered “white”…though Middle Eastern people are Caucasians living in warmer or sunnier climates, but Hispanic/Latino people are all “white”? esp. from Chile or Argentina? Black Americans can still be white by ancestry from the time of slavery, but not the east Asian Japanese although a few anthropologists find Caucasian or Ainu roots in them? Oh man, I’m half-French out of Europe (white cred) except my Cherokee Indian side lost the right of worship of the tribal original pantheistic polytheistic animistic spiritualistic faith (whoo…what a mouth full). +

I am white and southern baptist just like my parents and entire line of ancestors.

southern baptists. hmmm, other names for southern baptists are: KKK, national rifle assn members, rednecks, bigots, etc. all in the name of being religious and ‘christian’.

whatevah.

Let me guess…your parents were Southern Baptist.

No, but we unfortunately lived among southern baptists.

Where’s “atheism”?

i’m serious. whats more non-jesus than athiesm?

i don’t see this among any white people, i mean they stick to 2 religions, christianity or judaism. white people are the most christian people out there, they are the poster children of christianity, yo’d almost believe that jesus was born in london england or munich germany. white people love christianity, it’s true, there’s nothing they love more than this. i think this post was some attempt to connect white people to things that aren’t white, but trust me i don’t see many who would embrace Indian religions like Buddhism or Hinduism. Surely they’d closer move to something like Zoroastrianism because of the sameness of the other Abrahamic religions…

Surely you see the contradiction in your post. You are claiming white people have adopted another races religion and embracing it as their own, and then complain that you can’t see any whites converting to Hinduism… right?

Anyway I’m agnostic. If you need to check in a book if something is immoral, you are checking for excuses to get away with something you know is wrong.

Royce;

I am Agnostic too and so are most of the white people I know. I think christianity is a silly religion that expects it’s believers to suspend rational thouht in order to believe in the diety of Jesus (son of god, virgin birth, walked on water, rose from the dead to name just a few).

I would have much more respect for christianity if they said that it was based on the teachings of this man named Jesus to was a wise man and a philosopher and got here the same way the rest of us mortals did (parents had sexual intercourse, Jesus was conceived and 9 months later was born).

To me, the dvinity of Jesus is just a way for christians to glorify their religion and nothing more.

And BTW, my mom, who was a late-in-life born-again was convinced that I am going to hell because I am a non-believer.
