Hmm… I support Obama because he’s an excellent orator and he doesn’t seem as corrupt as the Clintons.
A part of me wants to see him win because he is black and it would break the whole “old white men” tradition.
I wish Hilary wasn’t so corrupt, but seeing as she is I would only back her if she was the last man standing in her party.
Most people hate her, but she’s still better than McCain who is just a slightly less religiously conservative version of Bush. At least Hilary is a Democrat, though she voted for the war, and abstained from voting on the whole wiretapping issue, so she’s very right for a Dem. Actually, that’s probably why white people want to vote for Barack – he’s more of a Democrat than Hilary, who is political moderate in the worst sense – meaning she is just playing politics trying to make everyone happy instead of focusing on her party’s platform.

I’d like to hire a president who knows how to run a fiscally sound campaign. As of the last FEC filing:

And, I think the issue is way more complex than selling us to China. And, Hillary Clinton actually had the guts to try to understand health care. Name one other person who has attempted to undestand it in all it’s complexity. It is easy to come up with ideas, but like any great leader, inventor, success story, there are failures before successes.

What we have to observe here is the failure of “collective thinking” when it comes to selecting candidates.

See? There’re several flaws in your statement. A) Kerry, Clinton, Bush, etc ALL voted for war in Iraq based on the same intel. Kerry and Clinton had the ability to be against it in hindsight because they didn’t get to be president. B) There are WMDs in Iraq, there have been for years and that was documented. What they’re finding now is WMD-light in roadside bombs instead of huge stockpiles so they don’t report that in the liberal media! “Well, yes, sarin IS a WMD but they only found a little.” Do some research, there’s metric TONS of the stuff they listed as having in the past missing. Just two years ago they found jets buried in the desert that we had no clue Iraq had access to. You think they can’t bury a few dozen barrels of toxins?

I’m Roman Catholic, White, and I like Jews. I respect Israel and think they should be whatever necessary to protect their home land, our holy land. In my estimation, it also includes Filipinos, and wealthy Blacks, while excluding anything below lower-middle income white people or white people who are not American citizens. And, to some, that is what is what is most appealing about him. He actually has ethics. You know…the ethics that some people only talk about but don’t have.

First off, I have yet to meet many people, white, black, or purple, who list Jimmy Carter as a favorite recent president. The man was a disaster in the White House, although he has more than made up for it in his actions post-presidency. You’re absolutely right that being in favor of “Muslim tyrants” is not the only other option besides supporting Israel, but I have met very few Jews who are thrilled with a two-state solution.

People tend to identify with that which they are identified as. Almost no one in this country can truly be 100% anything, yet we tend to identify with the ethnic group we are most closely tied into.
If you saw Barack on the street would you delve into the specifics of his ethnicity? No-you would see a Black man. His experiences in life, the way the public responds to him, the way he is treated in seen-all of it is because of the color of his skin.
If he referred to himself as a White man, people would be up in arms, Black and White, pointing out that a person with skin that color surely could not really consider themselves White.
The best he could do would be to discuss how he is, using the best descriptor available, Bi-racial.
All of that said, does it matter? Does it play into our perception of his effectiveness as a leader? We need to ask ourselves: would he be the best candidate even if his skin was white?

I’ve read Obama’s bio, and let’s just say done extensive research into his policies, and I don’t see evidence of any of the revolutionary, world-changing policies you would think he would offer given his eloquent, crowd-pleasing speeches.

Cheney served as Rumsfeld’s assistant in the Office of Economic Opportunity in the Nixon administration and was brought with Rumsfeld to the Department of Defense, under Ford, as Rumsfeld’s Chief of Staff. However, there is also no legitimate question that together (along with a handful of other experienced people, like Paul Wolfowitz, for instance) they got us involved in a war based on bad intelligence (I won’t make judgments about the acquisition and retention of the bad intelligence). Similarly, there is no real question that early management of the war, under Rumsfeld’s ultimate direction, was very poor (consider, for instance, the decisions to disband the Iraqi army and the lack of policing to help prevent looting and rioting). These were ENORMOUS mistakes, especially from men boasting such impressive resumes.
Why is all this important? Only because what really counts, in the long run, is judgment. Don’t get me wrong, though; experience is important. But it is not nearly as important as judgment.
Before the trolls start attacking this comment, let me say two things: 1) I trust the judgment of Barack Obama based on his previous voting records, his history of reaching across the aisle in the IL state senate since 1996, and his speeches. 2) I trust the judgment of John McCain because he has a LONG history of independent thought and of reaching across the aisle to work with the other party (consider his work with one of the more liberal Democrats, WI Senator Russ Feingold, in the McCain Feingold Act of 2002). If it comes down to Obama vs. McCain, I will have a very difficult decision, indeed. If it comes down to Hillary vs. McCain, I will be voting for McCain, hands down.

I realize it’s not your fault you probably attended one of the fine public educational academies this country holds, and if a government run school can produce such a scholar I believe the government should control more venues. Healthcare is a wonderful luxury we should let our government improve; Canada and France have fantastic socialist healthcare systems. Socialized healthcare is so good that if people can afford to travel to the U.S. for medical attention they do. The poor already get the best healthcare in the world for nothing and most of the working class in this country can afford the best healthcare in the world too. Although our government can and will, do a better job, just like the education system. Everyone knows a child with a public education will out perform any child with a private school education.
