Some other guy from Springfield had about the same qualifications as Obama, yes Powell and Eisenhower are good examples of experience, I like George Marshall. Grant was not too hot as president. McCain is qualified, but joking about killing all the Iranians with cigarettes is not John at his finest, some of these comments are getting better though?

You make a valid point by suggesting that Obama’s qualifications are comparable to Lincoln’s. Their time served in the Illinois legislature and congress is comparable. But Obama is no Lincoln.

It would be like me going through the exact same training program that Bruce Jenner did to prepare for the Olympics and expecting the same result. The potential just isn’t there. –Jeff in Houston, Texas

It’s refreshing to see a candidate like Obama. I think that he’s sincere and will really try to get the country out of the MESS that Bush put us in.

Then call me a racist because I do not like Obama or any other Democrat. The biggest racist here are the authors of this book and website. If any white person wrote a book what Black People like they would be called racist and Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would be all over the news to get the book pulled. I am white and would not vote for Obama not becasue he is black but because he is a Democrat.

Unless I have misunderstood something, this is a book about white people by white people. And so what, we need to be able to make fun of ourselves sometimes!

Althouth I love this site and the book, I must Agree with you. As an African American women, I see that “blacks” get away with alot of Politically incorrect issues” as oppose to white. I hate the term reverse racism, because i feel that it implies that racism is right or correct”when use a certain way or towards a certain group. But in this case i think it totally fits. Does anyone thing that a TV Station named “White Eternainment Television” will have lasted as long ast BET??

I’m white and totaly agree with this…..god forbid we all don’t like obama or else we’re racist scum. But I’d rather be a racist than a kiss ass. NObama

Umm…call me what you will, but Barack Obama is not on my friends list. I am of fan of Denzel Washington and Will Smith…see, I’m not a racist.

What if you just think he is highly qualified to be president?

AxelDC, everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but Barack Obama isn’t qualified to be president, let alone highly qualified. It most certainly isn’t because he’s black because Colin Powell is qualified. It’s because his total experience in the federal government is just three years in the senate. That, plus is his time in the Illinois legislature, means that he has a good understanding of the legislative process, of how law gets made. But that by itself isn’t enough.

The “big four” qualifications for president are (1) having served as vice president, (2) been governor of a state, (3) extensive experience in congress and (4) military experience (e.g. Washington, Grant and Eisenhower).

Having a solid background in diplomacy is certainly a good qualification, e.g. Colin Powell. For the most part the mission of the federal government begins at the national boundary and projects outward; national security, diplomacy, trade. Most domestic issues are the purview of the states.

Some people have tried to suggest that Barack compares to JFK–but he just doesn’t compare. JFK served in the house for six years, in the senate for six years and served as a naval officer in WWII. (Speaking as a retired soldier I can you that that kind of experience forges character in a way that “prep-school” does not). It is not insignificant that JFK was groomed from a young age to be president in a way that Barack simply was not.

How people can’t see that Barack is too inexperienced at this time in his life–is not qualified–is just *beyond* me. If he’d complete his term in the senate and serve one term as governor of Illinois he’d be minimally qualified. Two terms as governor would be even better.

***Sigh*** It almost doesn’t matter who gets elected in November–we’re screwed either way just based on fiscal issues alone. The unfunded portion of social security and medicare, through the death of the last baby-boomer, is 73-83 ***TRILLION*** dollars. That’s not the _total_ cost, that’s just the unfunded amount. And that’s just for those two programs. We are ***screwed*** six-ways-from-Sunday, as the saying goes.

Whatever really changes? The first election that I voted in was 1980. In the eighties the issues were the national-debt, illegal-immigration, the cold-war, social-security, rebuilding the military; the trade bogey-man was Japan (and later NAFTA).

In the seventies “they” were predicting a new ice-age, now it’s global-warming. In a classic case of not seeing the forest for the trees the *real* issues are over-population and pollution.

Fast-forward to 2008. The national-debt has steadily grown larger. The illegal-immigrants have received reinforcements. We’ve traded the cold-war for the war-on-terror. Social security & medicare are closer to melt-down. The army and the marine-corps are worn-out and the army, in particular, will need to be rebuilt. The trade bogey-men are China & India. Whatever really changes…

Then you’re just a fool, regardless of whiteness.

Oh, and I have no experience but I talk a big game. So I’m highly qualified to run your employer if you want to pass that up the totem poll.

Wahhhaha! Please! I listen to am 750 that is why I don’t like either candidate! If you go on skin color and charisma we should move this post to Stupidity in America ‘Why people Vote’
Get a grip on the way this Country is really run!

OMG…this is priceless. The ‘Friends’ pic is the icing on the cake. Obama is the highwater mark of all time for the white-guilt crowd.

You may personally be blameless, and a credit to your faith, but the Bob Jones, the Jerry Fallwells and the Ralph Reeds are hidden (and not even well hidden) among you and have to be rooted out with the sword as with Nazi’s, Pedophiles, Stalinists, Jihadists and other criminals.

And you are so afraid of everyone and everything that you have to home school and destroy public education upon which democracy is based? You are a disgrace to your own teachings.
