#16 “Gifted” Children

White people love “gifted” children, do you know why? Because an astounding 100% of their kids are gifted! Isn’t that amazing?
I’m pretty sure the last non-gifted white child was born in 1962 in Reseda, CA. Since then, it’s been a pretty sweet run.
The way it works is that white kids that are actually smart are quickly identified as “gifted” and take special classes and eventually end up in college and then law school or med school.
But wait, aren’t there white people who aren’t doctors or lawyers, or even all that smart?
Well, here is another one of those awesome white person win-win situations.
Because if a white kid gets crappy grades and can’t seem to ever do anything right in school, they are still gifted! How you ask? They are just TOO smart for school. They are too creative, too advanced to care about the trivial minutiae of the day to day operations of school.
Eventually they will show their creativity in their elaborate constructions of bongs and intimate knowledge different kinds of mushrooms and hash.
This is important if you ever find yourself needing to gain white person acceptance. If you see their kid playing peacefully, you say “oh, he/she seems very focused, are they in a gifted program?” at which point the parent will say “yes.” Or if the kid is lighting a dog on fire while screaming at their mother, you say “my he/she is a creative one. Is he/she gifted?” To which the parent will reply “oh, yes, he’s too creative and smart for school. We just don’t know what to do.” Either situation will put a white person in a better mood and make them like you more.
But NEVER under any circumstance imply that their child is less than a genius. The idea that something could come from them and be less than greatness is too much for them to bear.

This is hilarious. Recently the AP scores plummeted at Evanston township High School, because who ever wants to can take these courses. An AP English teacher talked to teh parents of a student who had received an “F” in the class, for never completing assignments etc…what was the parents response you ask – “Well, he doesn’t like to read. He is too smart.” !!!
I’m Hispanic/white and I got into gifted. I assume you didn’t mean specifically ALL minorities, and you made a generalisation, because I can guarantee the majority of the kids in the gifted program at my high school are not just barely above mental retardation – they’re quite intelligent.

Sorry, that’s how I get through life. At work, in school and with other people. More of a Californian thing, if I wasn’t in the state of Cal. I wouldn’t be required to, then I’m one of those autistic nerds or something tries to get by in life. I’m a product of my own environment, middle-class people get down on their luck and have to face reality. I share this guy’s sarcastic sense of humor on how he perceives the world through a “white man’s” comical point of view. +

In my all white (and poor rural) public school, a statistically impossible amount of the bell curve were exceptional students–either gifted or learning disabled. The school got $$$ from the state for every exceptional student identified. All the exceptional students had something called an IEP–individual education plan–which only existed on paper.
I was labeled “gifted”. I was absent about two months my senior year of high school, and the only reason I graduated is I threatened my principal with going public on his whole fake IEP/exceptional student scam. Maybe I was pretty smart, after all.
I happen to live in Canada, and I’m considered gifted. But what the hell is this white people are all gifted crap? I’ve been in 3 gifted classes before and every time, at least 75% of the people are Asians.
I’m white, in high school, and considered “gifted.” The label and gifted classes in general are a joke once you’ve reached high school. There is nothing challenging about them, so I dropped out and took AP classes.
LOL I was called a “Gifted” child. They actually sent me to a special school. When I got to college and it no longer mattered how smart your parents thought you were, I wound up failing a bunch of classes and dropping out.
The only thing I learned in the “Gifted Education System” is that it would be easier for parents as a whole to lower their expectations of their child and watch as their kid impresses them naturally, than it is to assume your kid is already impressive so you can be shocked and appaled when they don’t measure up.

this can be linked with the bumper sticker one because don’t you see those cars with the sticker that says “my child is a honor student at [insert elementary school here]”
they think their child is so smart then when middle school comes, theres less parents who think their child is “gifted.” Then comes high school and less and less think theyre gifted
you see these people talking about their gifted children mostly when their child is in elementary school where it’s pretty easy to be “gifted”

Being gifted, I find this post rather offensive. The gifted population is about 3% of the total population, and it is not impacted by race. 97% of white people are just plain average.

I guess your giftedness skipped statistical skills.
Of course 97% are not “plain average”. Check the 68-95-99.7 rule. 68% of all people are expected to be within one standard deviation from the median IQ. So there are about 16% of people “below average” and 16% “above average”.
And this distribution is impacted by race. Any honest study has pointed that. It’s a hornet’s nest though, and Liberals will try to skin you alive if you dare not to join the choir.
Very nice take on the stats, but I believe the first poster meant 3% are Mensa. Of course, that 3% is included in the 16% you have stated. I believe they’d say that the first person is just “too smart to be right”. Haha.

Mensa cuts on 2% actually (98th percentile). IQ 130 in the Wechsler scale. But I think he was very explicitly trying to say something about non Mensa people, as if they were this big indistinct mass. People with IQ 120 are dramatically brighter than than their IQ 80 counterparts, even though neither qualify for Mensa.
Schools have gotten smart. There is a gifted test; which is a hands on version of the IQ test. In order to make it into gifted they have to have a certain score. Also not everyone tested gets in. The best part is now minorities can be accepted into gifted too. If the child belongs to a minority they don’t have to get as high as a score. So white people have to be smart to get in. Non-whites just have to be a few points better than mental retardation to get in.
This is borderline racist.
I would call that poetic justice.
