I constantly hear about people’s gifted children (especially girls for some reason.) “We had Ashley tested, and she’s gifted,” etc. Then, of course, they want Ashley placed in a special curriculum to nourish and expand her giftedness. Mom can then brag (in the form of a complaint,) “They only have AP Social Studies and not Advanced Molecular Biology which is what our gifted Ashley needs to get into Yale.”

Oddly, the real shining stars rarely have egotistical parents. Consequently, most school districts develop AP or gifted courses more to satisfy egos than to identify and advance truly brilliant students.

I believe they actually give them a test where they must have an IQ above 130, so in reality, those who qualify as gifted are only 2% of the population. And certain states don’t even have those programs. If people are just saying ‘gifted’, then they’re distorting what it is.

as a student, i find this very evident in my school and quite absurd. i really don’t appreciate how kids that are unfocused and lazy are treated so special and the kids that work hard and dedicate their time to things aren’t given any appreciation or recognition. i think people (especially parents) just need to accept the fact that not everybody is or can be gifted.

You direct this at “gifted children,” but you fail to realize in the video they state that college is good for children who can already be doctors and lawyers.

You can tell who was in charge of this video by the way science, engineering, and mathematics are completely ignored.
