#18 Awareness

An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe that all of the world’s problems can be solved through “awareness.”  Meaning the process of making other people aware of problems, and then magically someone else like the government will fix it.

This belief allows them to feel that sweet self-satisfaction without actually having to solve anything or face any difficult challenges.  Because, the only challenge of raising awareness is people not being aware.  In a worst case scenario, if you fail someone doesn’t know about the problem.  End of story.

What makes this even more appealing for white people is that you can raise “awareness” through expensive dinners, parties, marathons, selling t-shirts, fashion shows, concerts, eating at restaurants and bracelets.  In other words, white people just have to keep doing stuff they like, EXCEPT now they can feel better about making a difference.

Raising awareness is also awesome because once you raise awareness to an acceptable, aribtrary level, you can just back off and say “Bam! did my part.  Now it’s your turn.  Fix it.”

So to summarize – you get all the benefits of helping (self satisfaction, telling other people) but no need for difficult decisions or the ensuing criticism (how do you criticize awareness?).  Once again, white people find a way to score that sweet double victory.

Popular things to be aware of: The Environment, Diseases like Cancer and AIDS, Africa, Poverty, Anorexia, Homophobia,  Midde School Field Hockey/Lacrosse teams, Drug Rehab, and political prisoners.

“Black people” like awareness on a smaller scale. ie. Bitching about problems and who they have decided is to blame, but not offering any solutions.

how about being “aware” that America was built off the backs of all its minorities? White people give themselves all the credit for founding America by “discovering” this land, enslaving its indigenous people and setting up a government and constitution that oppresses these minorities that are still used today as cheap labor (aka slavery) to provide The American Dream for all white people who never had to lift a finger to become wealthy. So go fuck yourself you greedy white capitalist pigs.

Gee, you take things quite seriously, don’t you? And all this in a 1970-feminist-activist-I-grow-my-own-crops sort of freaky way.

Five bucks says that Julia is white.

Ten bucks says that right now, at this very moment that I type this, she is working to raise awareness about something.

I’m Native Yaquis American, bummer, you just lost 5 bucks.
This is a waste of time. goodbye.

That gave me a chuckle. I don’t blame her though. This is the problem with over funding of public education.

its actually under funded…..or else student loans wouldn’t be needed to afford an education….keep better track of where your tax dollars are going…because it sure aint public education.

I know liberals like to call it underfunded. I also know schools used to do a lot better with a lot less than they are getting now. Most nations doing better than us in education now, spend far less than we do.

Is julia a native?

I don’t think I’ve met anyone who isn’t aware of this.

I saw this site on http://www.DanielDickey.com(the MTV VJ) and must say it is just as funny!!

Did this guy make StuffJewishPeopleLike.com too?

million man march was for the rights of African Americans, and yes they were the ones walking.

Autism is made-up. Like the Tooth Fairy.

I never leave personal comments on websites, so I will not point out that Bob the Chef is an ignorant and insensitive person, even though his comment on autism being made-up provides ample evidence for this.

You know ….. I really wish Autism WAS made up. My 5 year old is Autistic, and let me tell you …. it is very much real. I cannot begin to tell you of the daily struggles she goes through because of it.
