An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe that all of the world’s problems can be solved through “awareness.” Meaning the process of making other people aware of problems, and then magically someone else like the government will fix it.
This belief allows them to feel that sweet self-satisfaction without actually having to solve anything or face any difficult challenges. Because, the only challenge of raising awareness is people not being aware. In a worst case scenario, if you fail someone doesn’t know about the problem. End of story.
What makes this even more appealing for white people is that you can raise “awareness” through expensive dinners, parties, marathons, selling t-shirts, fashion shows, concerts, eating at restaurants and bracelets. In other words, white people just have to keep doing stuff they like, EXCEPT now they can feel better about making a difference.
Raising awareness is also awesome because once you raise awareness to an acceptable, aribtrary level, you can just back off and say “Bam! did my part. Now it’s your turn. Fix it.”
So to summarize – you get all the benefits of helping (self satisfaction, telling other people) but no need for difficult decisions or the ensuing criticism (how do you criticize awareness?). Once again, white people find a way to score that sweet double victory.
Popular things to be aware of: The Environment, Diseases like Cancer and AIDS, Africa, Poverty, Anorexia, Homophobia, Midde School Field Hockey/Lacrosse teams, Drug Rehab, and political prisoners.

So true! I’m white, but I agree that by and large most white people are full of it.

Hopefully white people will be bred out of existence over the next millenia… we have to be the most annoying and hypocritical race ever!

Did you ever stop to think about the fact that those same people who are raising awareness today are going to be the big decision makers in the future? Many of the individuals you see on street corners, or those organizing dinners and other events to ‘make themselves feel good’ are also actively working to change policies to put an end to the problems that they are spreading awareness about.
Think about it this way: you could either go on your own, and try to do what you can to make a difference, or you can do that, while at the same time, holding large events to attract people with a similar goal, while also informing those who were not aware of the problem. Now which makes more sense?

I think this is true about wealthy Americans in general. “Awareness” is all the rage in Hollywood, and there are people of every color spouting that shit.
I think the point of this issue is to get over white guilt. I think we all agree that it’s all well and good to be aware, and useless as shit if you don’t go do something about it (“spreading awareness” doesn’t really count, unless in conjunction with other action). Yes we all need to know the true story behind the crap our government does, what we’re putting in our bodies and what we’re being told by media sources. Yes many of the stories are sad and make us feel sympathetic, but have nothing to do with us in any immediate sense so we feel ok with forgetting them pretty quickly. Knowing these stories, however, puts you in a position of responsibility, not a position of power. Additionally, being and white and privileged doesn’t make you a bad person; being educated and apathetic does.
Sorry if that’s clichéd “white people speak”, but I’m pretty sure it applies even if you change the color in the above paragraph.
I am still reading the blog so I don’t know if this has already been covered but white people love Oprah, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama- or is this covered under diversity
Isn’t raising awareness very relevant to how African-Americans in the Civil Rights Movement abolished discrimination and how apartheid was defeated in South Africa?
Well played, blogosphere.
@#24 Anonymous
Um, no, it’s not relevant. People took their asses out into the streets and got beaten and killed for those rights. They did worlds more than merely stand on a pedestal and “inform” people. They did more than “raise awareness.” They made a difference.
And, that, dear anonymous, is all the difference in the world.
There weren’t only white people in that march morons
Yeah, white people do love to raise awareness for everything. If only any of these people actually did something useful to solve the problem.
Let’s have an example then genius? What is “something useful”?
This blog should really be called, “Stuff Insufferable White Elitist Liberal Democrats Like.”

If you read it with that understanding however, it is hilariously accurate. And any defense of the nonsense on display here, I guarantee you, is from a White Liberal…who has been summarily busted.

hahaha! i like that “africa” made the list of things to be aware of. because people don’t realize it exists. maybe we should work on making them aware that it isn’t just one big country. if there’s one thing that drives me crazy, it is supposedly educated people who say “africa” when asked to name a third world country. perhaps that would make a good post – white people who think africa is a country instead of a continent.
oh, and for the complete and utter moron who keeps posting that list of racial stereotypes and then saying, “don’t you dare call me a racist” – have you paid no attention to anything but your own self-righteous self (how’s that for redundancy)? the author of this blog is WHITE. just like you, mr. “non-racist.” so shut it.

(I’m really sorry, but I have to post this incognito, as daring to raise a word against the kind of smugness/bullshit piety as this article expounds is like a Rabbi speaking out against the Brownshirts in 1931 Berlin. Political Correctness is the opiate of the masses)
Hmmm…
It was the Jews from, ooh, 1000 AD; then the Saracens during the Crusades, then the Jews, then the Protestants – briefly, ’til the Protestants won, & wherefore it quickly became the other way around; in the 17 & early 18th Century it was the Irish, Scots and the Jews; I forget about the 19th Century – oh yeah, the Abolishionists and the Jews!
In the early 20th Century it was Yellow Peril, then it was Communism (invented by the Jews), then it was Hippies (Commies/Fags) and now it’s… us! And no matter what salient hard facts you throw in the face of the New Age Politically Correct Bigot/Racist (Farrakhan, Malcolm X, who didn’t want any aid for their cause from whites, who definitely had the power to supply it, because they were white!) as to the hypocrisy of their stance, they, in much the same manner as a Scientologist, will spin-doctor aside your protests with the most nebulous, oblique bafflegab non-sequiters designed to utterly cloud the issue (as did/does the KKK) until they’ve just plumb tuckered you out and you retreat exhausted though you both still know the real truth but only one of you will admit it.
So now it’s ‘us’? We’re the new Jews/Gypsies/Yellow Peril/Commies/Fags/Sand Niggers (Oh, look! The Saracens are back!)/ what have you, who can do no right?
I’m sorry, I missed something… no, you did; Scapegoatism is still Scapegoatism.
Hahaha. I love that picture. Marching through the streets to end poverty. Hilarious.
If those people were to take the same amount of time and use it to put in more hours at the Fidelity/Prudential/WaMu, they could DONATE that money to a poor family. But, I suppose, private charity is an oxymoron.
Those same people are on the local school boards, village councils, PTA boards, etc. Instead of taking their property taxes and redistributing them into poorer school districts, a policy that has been suggested since Brown V Board, they spend all this time making everyone around them aware that poverty does, in fact, exist.
This is satire at its best. Thank you.

Statistically, the rich whites and professional protester college students depicted in this (hilarious) blog give very little to actual charitable causes, either in the way of money or time. Most of the practical work of helping people (at home and abroad) goes to the unwashed, fish-on-car-having masses who don’t do a good enough job letting everyone know how AWARE they are. That is why these uber-white people see government as a way to solve everything- it doesn’t involve them doing anything, but the credit they get for complaining about lack of government support for such-and-such is off the charts.

Oh dear… Lots of people with an oppinion on why white people suck. The best part of racism… Yes I aggree that while merely spreading awarness doesn’t have a direct impact, I know that without such awareness no one can make any sort of impact period.
Besides… It’s not like “white people” own the idea of spreading awarness.
And since when has Bono been the white peoples mascotte? Dear lord they are effed now.
“What makes this even more appealing for white people is that you can raise “awareness” through expensive dinners, parties, marathons, selling t-shirts, fashion shows, concerts, eating at restaurants and bracelets. I think I love you. This is so awesomely true.
I remember “white people” on TV discussing global warming and talking about how taking the cell phone charger out of the outlet can really save electricity. And being really excited about that.
Yep, that’ll bring the glaciers back.
Thank you for this, it was hilarious.
This is also the explanation for #8, since Obama is Mr. Awareness.
awareness is only a stepping stone to finding solutions. I can think of one such person who was fighting for awareness. His name was Malcolm Little. Another one would be Martin Luther King.
Don’t even bring Martin Luther King into this. He WENT TO JAIL, he risked his life by marching out into the streets, that’s nothing like the kind of goofy “awareness” being satirized here, which is nothing if not safe, self-congratulatory, and of little use.
Besides, MLK dedicated his whole life to his cause. He didn’t just go out and prance around for a few hours comfortably “for a cause” in between trips to Starbucks and shopping sprees.
And MLK wasn’t enamored with the idea of persecution like these coddled “protesters”…he believed in peace and didn’t go out punking cops, throwing things, and starting trouble, hoping to be arrested to prove how rebellious and hip he was. He actually cared about what he was preaching and did what it made the most sense to do to make the world better.
(And of course by “white” I’m sure you’ve gathered that they don’t mean just anyone with white skin…there’s a specific kind of white person being singled out…all in fun.)
You can make ALL kinds of impact WITHOUT “raising awareness” in the ways described here. In fact, most people who actually do make an impact are the people not wasting their time with such nonsense.
Seeing someone marching down a street to make YOU aware of something that they aren’t doing anything practical to solve, accomplishes jack squat, besides being irritating. Seeing someone actually dedicating their time and effort to a cause, however, inspires others to do the same.

creating awareness is just one step in making change. i can’t speak for other white people, but i’ve always seen it as the first step in starting a movement. unless the mass population is aware of a problem, they can and will not do anything to try and help. if you inform them, and then provide them with a way to contribute to some sort of cause then you are promoting positive social action within your community.
of course, if you are just being the informer, it can seem annoying and self-serving to others. but it does a hell of a lot more for the world to live in a place where people are informed and are making conscious decisions about where they spend their money rather than sitting at home like me and reading lists of what white people like.

While I agree with your comments and post, I wanted to point out that the photo you used was very inappropriate to portray your point. The people in this photo are from Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB), a Canadian organization committed to working to eliminate poverty. The people at this Water March are likely dedicated members of their local chapter of the organization and participate in MANY other activities to work for change. This is the mantra of EWB and they emphasize the use of Public Outreach Events (like this) IN ADDITION to advocacy work within the government (ie. private meetings with the Director of CIDA and speeches to the Public Policy Forum), deep critical analysis of issues through development-related education for its members, and their own programs overseas to tackle “the challenges” themselves.
Additionally, not only was this public awareness activity not a one-off, feel-good activity, much of our outreach is done consistently and with educational materials provided, contact information collected, and follow-up done. EWB offers people tangible things they can “do” besides “feel good.”
I am not speaking on behalf of any other awareness raising events and would challenge other organizations in the same way that you have had – to actually raise more than money for a cause, but take serious consideration into how events can work to change people’s behaviours. Having been a member of EWB for a long time, I have personally been involved in the montitoring, evaluating, and transformation of our outreach and educational events to ensure we are maximizing the impact of our awareness in order to achieve our mission to end extreme poverty.
For more information about the organization visit http://www.ewb.ca or become invovled in its 25,000 member’s daily discussions about development, poverty, change, and what part we can play by signing on to http://www.myewb.ca

Do you mean this? You want your own children to be wiped out? We white people are being devoured by the rest of the world: we are the geese that laid the golden eggs. What a mess the world will be in when we are gone. No more aid when there is a famine, for example, no more medical developments, oh my God, do I have to say this stuff?

Are you effing stupid? The “geese that laid the golden egg?!” Really?! So like, do you sit around all day reading Mein Kampf, watching Newt Gingrich, and fellating your other aryan nation brothers? And IF the world really would be a “mess when we are gone” (like it would happen in a week–we’re talking 50 generations or more jackass. Open a fucking book before you open your fucking mouth) it’s only a mess now because capitalists (mostly white, except the ones they put on the homepage of their websites, and those are just models anyway) have raped the entire world, taking all the natural resources from any country that happens to be populated by brown people for the past 500 years.
Sorry to get offended (and in defense of other people, too–I’m clearly an expert level white person. I even used an oxford comma in this post. Though I find asian girls to be insufferably uncute and insane, so maybe I’m not so advanced a white person after all) but this xenophobic imbecile had to be verbally bitchslapped.
Amen brotha. I get depressed all the time–life’s a shitty fuckin place sometimes. You get up and get over it, not take some drug to make you think the world is buttercups and blowjobs 24/7.
Yeah, you’re right, I’m sure there are only a handful of young republican whelps who have summered in Europe, attended an ivy league school, or threw a gay dinner party thinking it was the social event of the season. Why don’t you go light some kittens on fire you effing dittohead.
My thoughts EXACTLY. This individual is obviously well-read enough to know his history (either that or he went to wikipedia, looked at a timeline, and wrote down a few key nationality/date combinations–both possibilities seem equally likely) but knowledge in the hands of a bigoted asshole can only be misused.
Case in point–this douchebag.
This guy obviously listens to waaaaay too much talk radio. And religion is the opiate of the masses dumbfuck, no matter what Bill O’Reilly tries to tell you. Political correctness? Seriously? Anyone who even gives a fuck about pc/anti-pc probably needs a hole in the head. Go play in a effing microwave doofus.
Well-put. You’re clearly a real black person who is in fact a racist (presumably hating, at the very least, white people) and not someone who thought it would be funny/ironic to have a “hateful” post from a “real” black person. I like the misspelling of vermin–nice touch. And the 1950′s American Indian speak coupled with the parody of the oft-overused “pure race white brothers” schtick in the second sentence is magnificent. I give it a 6.5 on the aryanometer.
Don’t fret though…go watch American History X a few more times, masturbate to some fuhrer-porn and cut yourself in the mirror while listening to Skrewdriver and I’m sure something even more clever than this opus will come to you.
Skynet became aware and then look what happend.

Live 8 – biggest awareness wank of all time. Lets get the biggest bands in the world to play concerts for free to raise awareness of poverty. Just got an idea: why not charge middle class concert goers to go to giant concerts and use money to feed the poor.
uhmm, instead of making shit about what white ppl do/like.. how about u make black ppl like that stuff to? or just keep the lame jokes, that are a waste of ur time. and i guess i prove #101… but thats ok.
lmfao, i love ppl who like agree with anything black ppl say so that they can fit in with the black ppl.
how about instead of doing that, making a big deal about if ur white/black. we don’t look at colour. like fuck, it doesn’t matter. did u not listen to martin luther king jr.’s speech? fuck.
Well put, Ashley. Another thing white people like: Sarcasm.
I also want to point out that the primary cause of depression is shitty diet. I don’t care how fucked up your doctor claims your brain chemicals are, it’s due to eating highly processed foods, over-using coffee or pot or cigarettes and just sitting around watching tv. Before this modern-machine took over the last 50 years, I think if you got depressed you either wrote novels or died.
Note: I’m spreading awareness of something an individual can actually do something about, not some abstract shit like “breast cancer” —- if i could take the lump out of your tit, i would do it!!
That’s stuff white people like.
Because its a real problem you fucko.
Nah, white people love those people because they spread awareness. They just get extra points for it because they put their money where their mouths , uh, how does that go?
I think that’s a good point to make, but if you wanna be factual, most of the issues people go on and on spreading awareness about… well you see, the awareness is the solution. The world is going to shit because people don’t realize where their money goes or where their products come from (for the most part) and most people don’t realize they’re being fed, systematically, lies from the major media outlets. It’s not a matter for debate. The awareness IS the solution in many cases. This blog is something of a satire, while it does raise important points, it is meant from something of a comical point of view, so all y’all chill out.
Someone who spends their time learning, so that they can inform others efficiently, is commendable. If that’s all they do, we can commend them for that. If you can’t, its like saying something completely moronic like “a book can’t change the world.”
I think we’ve all heard of the Bible, and possibly the Koran?
If anyone can honestly believe that it’s a fallacy to believe spreading awareness is an important (the important) aspect of change, maybe there is some other website you should be reading.
stuffwhitepeoplelike.com spreads awareness (OH SHIT!)
I want to point out the irony that the Scape-goat is a Jewish tradition (find it on Wikipedia.com if you want)… how ironic for the Jewish people.

way to berate — we are all sarcastically cheering you on
oh shit, i’m a hypocrite now.
I find it frightening that so many people refer to the American “government” as something separate and superior to “we the people” … doesn’t it’s occur to y’all white-liberal-bashers for a second that nobody in their right minds wants “the government” to do Anything? It is people of the government that are expected to do things.
Let me just go on a quick diatribe right here…
Awareness is the only thing there is.
When you are sick, you are not “sick” until you are *aware* of your sickness. Otherwise, you are fine! Not sick!
The saying “ignorance is bliss” means that, when you are unaware of problems, they do not bother you at all. For all of your purposes, the problem does not exist, even if effects of the problem are experienced by you, even if they are negative effects, you have nothing to attribute them, and might say something asinine like “that’s just the way god made it”, or whatever.
To imply that spreading awareness is not work, is, well that’s a thought of someone who’s never spread awareness, that is certain.
To spread awareness requires, first, understanding of an issue, which most Americans have a very superficial one.
The reason so many people come off as the fad-of-the-month activists, is because they usualy only know about what’s on the evening news and NPR. That’s all filtered. I don’t trust a minute of it, not to say there aren’t true stories, but sometimes its what you DONT say that matters.
I think the blog post is funny but its also fun to see how many ways it can be interpreted by people.
Others have said it as well — awareness is an important part, but it needs to be coupled by action. If you are in a position where you’re good at learning, and organizing information so that it may be more easily learned by others, then your action is spreading awareness.
Most people who oppose fascist dictatorships have very little idea about them. Many my wonder “how can our government allow this” — as if our military is a police department … but the truth is, dictators are often put into power by agents of our own secretive agencies. If you’ve never heard that before, or you’ve heard it before and didn’t believe it, seek out someone who knows about it and ask them to prove it to you, because it is real.
P.S. posting comments on a blog is, (ahem…) SPREADING AWARENESS — you better be fucking glad you’re not allergic to irony-!
Yeah, so does anyone bother to go look at it?
like number 40 on a list of about 43 things you can do help the environment, it says this:
“Made from 100% scrap leather by Roots — 100% of net proceeds go the Stop Global Warming Fund.”
I don’t really agree with leather, but if it was scrap leather, i guess i can see a plus in turning something unfortunate into funding for helping to change something else unfortunate … hmm it take a bit of a stretch of the imagination however…

In the USA, giving money to homeless people doesn’t do anything except support homelessness (and make the giver feel less guilty). Most homeless people are either mentally ill, addicts, or con men. Giving money to these people does not help them.
Because poverty is an economics issue, how come you never see organizations like “Economists Without Borders?” I think the EWB’s efforts are sincere, but you guys really have no idea how to stop poverty, nor at the very least explain how you plan to stop poverty. The closest I could get was the abstract notion that properly placed technology will drive extradorinary change. As if the lack of technology is the cause of poverty. I always felt systemic poverty was due to corrupt and oppressive governments. For example, see how China transformed as soon as it’s govt started opening up its markets. I would argue your group is worse than merely creating awareness. You actively pursue in misappropriating money and effort into the wrong solution or no solution.
“because capitalists … have raped the entire world, taking all the natural resources from any country”
Now I understand why the “brown countries” have no resources whatsoever: because they have been rape by the bad capitalists…
Oh, wait: isnt’t Africa still full of diamonds, gold, and oil in the ground? Why there are practically no developed countries there, with the exception of one, until recently ruled by … white people?
Oh, wait again: aren’t Japan and Hong-Kong completely lacking any natural resources? And in the same time ruled by… o, well, capitalists? And currently two of the most developed countries in the world?
You collectivist zombies would have been pretty funny to joke with, if you didn’t make a joke of yourselves each time.

What’s the illiteracy rate in America amongst adults, white, not white?
White people love to care deeply about anonymous people in Tibet/Africa/India/etc., yet they’re perfectly willing to treat their neighbors like sh!t (cut you off in traffic/bring their dog to crap in your yard/etc.)
I nominate you for some sort of award. Please take my virgin daughter into your bed.
Just one question–who reaps the benefits of the diamonds, gold, and oil mined from Africa? Surely it’s not the DeBeers CEOs and stockholders.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m positive that the miners make a substantial living, no doubt in the safest of conditions, carving out diamonds and gold from the bowels of the earth to be placed on spoiled rich bitches’ engagement rings.
And to be called a zombie for using one (damn irrefutable) sentence regarding the raping of the third world gives me absolute tingles–I feel like I just ate a York patty. It shows that that is not the point you took umbrage with, but the rest of my post. But you can’t really attack someone for NOT being a pole-smoking Aryan dittohead, so you took what you had to work with. Now I’ll give you a chance to call in to Bill O’Reilly before you repost, because you’ll obviously need to find out the appropriate way to think on this. Let me just say that I have nothing against capitalism itself though. Like any system, though, it can (and has) been perverted by those who love money.
So bullocks to you, jackass
Abso-freakin-lutely. The miracle cure for 90% of our nation’s fat-ass brain-dead morons–healthy diet and exercise. Turn off the damn Tila Tequila and go run a few laps (no, walking is NOT exercise). If you’re too fat to run, try swimming. And instead of wasting untold hours watching reality TV, try reading a book. And no, Danielle Steele and Tom Clancy don’t count as books, either. Try reading a classic. It’ll hurt your brain for the first few chapters, but you’ll be better for the experience.
A bullock is a steer. You meant bollock. Your vulgarity is tiresome and does disservice to your Oxford comma. If there are resources in Africa and people want to extract them, then they might as well and put them to use. The resources don’t do anybody any good sitting in the ground. The Africans aren’t doing this—except in parts of North Africa, like Egypt—and aren’t stopping anybody from doing it. They don’t have civilization. If they were to develop civilizations, they could organize to keep hold of their resources and gain profits from them and landowners could use the profits for personal gain and improving these civilizations. Instead, the farmers and nomadic tribes tread water in primitivism and the warlords and their armies wallow in barbarism. A sorry state, but I’ve got more important things to worry about: the education of my daughter and the state of my own civilization.
Your suspicion that Ashley is from the South only proves that you are a ‘typical white person’…. probably not a Southerner??

In most developed countries, the literacy rate isn’t reported, and is automatically estimated at 99%. Ridiculous.
Even if it was reported, I wouldn’t consider it accurate. Most of our newspapers and magazines are written at a 5th grade (11-12-year-old) reading and comprehension level, because that is the level the majority of the United States.
Since the focus group of the “Adult” literacy rate is aged 15 and older, I would say that not being able to read and comprehend something written at a higher level of intelligence than James and the Giant Peach muddles the results a little bit.
It’s pretty pathetic, I guess, is what I’m trying to say.
Very true, being aware of problems, though a good first step, is no substitute for the difficult and lengthy process of developing and implementing a solution or in the very least a mitigating strategy.

thing is that sometimes raising awareness is all that you can do. it’s fucking frustrating. think genocide in darfur. most people don’t know/care and normal people are helpless to do anything. the only way to actually make a difference is raise awareness so that people WILL care and will put pressure on the government to actually do something. not all awareness raising efforts are solely for people to feel good about themselves. sometimes (hopefully) raising awareness actually does accomplish something.
[...] #18 Awareness [...]
With all the “awareness” going on, who DOESN”T know about Darfur? But are you willing to volunteer in the UN peacekeeping troop?
Gonzo, I think your comments just validated the first paragraph.
But…most people, white or not, are unaware of what is going on around them. They seem to enjoy it. I myself enjoy the peace that comes with being unaware.
Gonzo,
“cecikierk” is right, you know? You can be as “aware” as you like, but until you’re willing to pick up a rifle and head to western Sudan, your “awareness” will remain as useless as it is today. Nor will “raising the awareness” of the rest of the world change anything anytime soon, as the Bashir government really isn’t interested in our opinion(s).
Now, should you decide to head on over to Darfur, know that the “suppression element” provides a “base of fire” to keep an enemy’s head down and mind otherwise occupied while the “maneuver element” advances (using “bounding techniques,” preferably) to reduce (read “kill”) that enemy and his position. You teach that to some tribesmen well enough to be used successfully a few times, and I imagine the Janjaweed will think twice before ransacking another village. You will, of course, need to learn how to say “follow me” in the native tongue. To be is to do, right hard-charger?
Also remember to take some sunglasses and sunscreen when you go… it’s mighty bright over there
I completely agree. YES this is an ignorant way of living but “ignorance is bliss”
I am sorry but I am SOOOOOOO tired of hearing about everyone’s problems. I want to help others, I want to give my money to charities and raise “awareness” but as long as their are human beings on this earth there will be violence, and death, and disease, etc.
YES, I do think we need to help the less fortunate. I do think we need to continue to work on finding cures for diseases BUT I’m tired of constantly having a new scare report on the news everyday.
I do agree with your statement.
Until all this skin cancer and breast cancer “Awareness” started, I was pretty oblivious. I’m twenty and still think I’m invincible. I would lay out all day and could careless about checking my boobs (those mammograms looks horribly painful). But now I hardly ever lay out, load up on sunscreen, and stopped tanning in beds to make my natural tan, even tanner.
It wasn’t so much the media that scared as it was seeing the real people in my community who are battling cancer.
If you really care about Darfur, you could go there and work in one of the refugee camps… Oh, but that requires actual WORK, which is #1 on the list of things white people DON’T like.
[...] Blog Post – Awareness [...]
Really not so much a reply to Todd’s comment as it is just a general observation that every topic on this blog reminds me of overheard coffee shop conversations between philosophy students. I can’t say the observations are wrong…I just think they should include all races who never finished a philosophy course. And I say that as a full blown art degree dropout. How’s that for irony? (for those of you who are fans of this blog I refer you to Alanis Morrisette’s song “Ironic”. For the rest of you I refer you to do the same thing Mr. Neverfiguredshitout did and start a blog and then make some money and get together and do a book tour.
Sincerely, some guy who wished he thought of this first…(but would have done it his way which i would have liked better but would have maybe gotten the same response.)
…but seriously, start a blog.

I like this post. While it is still a satire like many of your other lists (which were also great), this one touches on a sensitive issue and I completely agree. With all the protesting going around, the protesters needs to realize what they are actually accomplishing. While i admire most of them for their effort, most of the “awareness” aren’t doing much.
One example would be Tibet. Many protesters have tried to spread “awareness” in Beijing this weekend. Here’s my question: what have they actually accomplished? The Chinese people already know white people wants the Chinese government to free Tibet, but THEY DON”T KNOW WHY. All they do is just hang a big banner that says “Free Tibet” or bring a Tibet flag in front of huge crowds without any explanation. The Chinese people are not aware of some of the tragedies that are happening in Tibet, so why not tell them? Instead, the protesters are just screaming at Chinese police, holding hands yelling “Free Tibet” or climbing buildings. All of this will only make the Chinese hate the white people even more.
PS: Let’s just enjoy the olympics for what it is, and not get too much into the politics.
Dear Mr. Landers.
Thank you for Highlighting this issue. For this particular White Man the burden of wearing all of these wristbands is proving problematic not to mention tiresome.
Also I cannot remember the last event I attended where a good time was the primary consideration. From Dying Children’s Last Wishes to Institutionalized Rape In The Congo, I find my social life has descended into a never ending round of awareness and fund raising.
My only hope is to somehow find the strength to no longer care and break the shackles of this particular “White Burden”.
I look with envy at my educated “non white” peers who are able to live a similar “purchased experience” lifestyle but are not afflicted with the psychic dissonance between their lifestyle and those less fortunate. (What else am I to assume as you Mr. Clander have decided that Awareness is somewhat exclusive to SWPL?)
For now I remain a White Man Of Privilege bound to his desk painfully aware of the poverty in the world and the advantages my parents have given me. I console myself with wearing wrist bands, attending charity events and raising money for the Nature Conservancy. I have Drunk the WHITE FLAVORED Kool-Aid and can no longer jump from Carousel Of Privilege. I hope to God that some of my money and efforts no matter how small will add to the cosmic karma and lead to a better world. At the same time I am on the neverending wheel to make the money to afford the lifestyle that makes your blog funny.
How much money are you giving from the book to the worlds problems Mr Clanders now that you have bought awareness to “Awareness”?
Just Curious
I get sick of getting blasted by some non-white who thinks they know that the hell I think and do.
Whites are the only group whom it is ok the slam.
And you wonder why we hate all you others.
My blog is filled with white people stuff – advocating awareness, Barack Obama, traveling, etc:
http://www.levantinesummer.blogspot.com
You might need to actually look at the creator of this site: he’s about as white as they come. He’s making fun of his own culture. Shouldn’t that be okay?
“And you wonder why we hate all you others.”
Please don’t use the term “we” to refer racist shitbags like yourself.
Maybe if you lived in a place with more diversity, or weren’t a racist prick, you would know that it’s fine to make fun of all races. Blacks, Indians, Asians, Mexcians, etc. can all make fun of themselves, and let you make fun of them, if they know you’re doing it in good fun. Someone like you, who “hates” these “others”, can’t do that.
Anyway, I can’t stand people who bitch about this blog. Yeah, it’s a bunch of stereotypes that apply to young liberal idiots, but they’re all still pretty positive stereotypes compared to the ones we place on other races.
WHOOOOSH!
That was the sound of the point of this site flying over your head like so many pigeons.
Haha! That’s hilarious. It’s not really meant to be taken offensively, it’s just funny. I hate how people don’t even take a good look at what they’re reading before they formulate a ignorant comment about it. lol It really does sound like our culture, and I REALLY think it is horribly funny.
I don’t know and I don’t care.
I guess I’m not aware.
Thomas (a white guy)
Don’t forget charity credit cards – raise awareness as you spend….
Hahahahaahahaahahahahahhahah!
Shouldn’t “oxford comma” be capitalized?
this website is completely…….ridiculous.
get rid of it please.
Maybe you should raise people’s awareness as to the ridiculousness of this site.
I am tired of awareness. When are all the dollars we shell out to cancer organizations actually gonna generate a CURE. We have funneled BILLIONS of dollars into research for more than 30 years. Like we need more “awareness”. I think it is the almighty force of greed that has prevented cancer from being stamped out.
No, it’s just that cancer is actually really hard to cure, because it’s not just one disease, it’s a million different diseases, each caused by different mutations in different steps of the cell cycle in different cells. So, actually, a lot of what that funding has gone to is figuring out all those mutations and steps and cells. And then also coming up with a couple great drugs, which unfortunately are available to the very few who have insurance willing to fork out for the hefty intellectual property.
Oh, but about awareness… spot on, stuffwhitepeoplelike.
I hate it when people try to raise awareness for autism because there is no cure .And just because your kid has it doesn’t mean his whole life is ruined.

What do you mean getting blasted? On the scheme of sterotypes this is extremely harmless. This is not “slamming” white people, its just silly. If it was malicious no one would read it and it would not be funny.
I think a lot of people are missing the point of this post. Fund-raising for a charity – no, fund-raising publicly to show the world there is a problem and show that you’re raising money for it – close. Public displays for a humanitarian cause with no intent to do anything to better the situation – bingo. Real “Awareness” like walks for Darfur, protesting Israeli retaliation of Lebanon, and Live8 are perfect in that they are ambiguously dedicated to bringing awareness, without raising any funds or having any potential for change. This is my favorite one yet.
I think it’s great that you’re making people aware of this issue!
does this mean than non-white people like being unaware?
I was unaware of this issue. Now that I know, I feel better.
Economists tend not to do anything. They observe and place blame. A lot of EWB’s efforts include actual implementation of things like sanitation devices for clean water, and ways to provide electricity. They do many projects that make use of the locals’ resources so that they can continue to do work after the implementation team has left. Technology is not the entire problem, but what EWB and DWB (Doctors without Borders) basically do is get out there and help people. No books, no endless essays, no finger pointing. Just ordinary professionals and students who plan a realistic project, concentrate on ONE THING, and get it done.
HA HA HA
You know, this huge espousing of ‘the classics’ above all else really just puts people off reading.
Some classics are overhyped POS, and even the good ones may not be terribly well suited to a modern audience, those who will enjoy them usually are going and reading them already.
Modern literature is not the bane of all thought, get over it.

My wife just went to an aquacise session for breast cancer this past weekend.
I asked her how much money they raised.
Answer – none; it was only to raise awareness.
True story.
Buddhist quotes: “To know something, and not have it change your life and consciousness, is to not really know it!”
The Dispensing of information is not the same thing as awareness, under the auspice of information people can do terrible things in the name of some cause or perceived good. George W. Bush went to war in the name of a perceived threat & a belief of religious Good , but he was not truly aware, or he would have never done it. He truly believed what he was doing was Good, and for the benefit of Humanity, but he was not aware.
When You are truly aware, understanding is the results, through understanding you can approach the task with wisdom and Love. That will always work!

“Awareness! Awareness is what you need!”, said the wolf in trainer’s clothing.
Well….at least you’re not uptight.
Awareness will save your behind when you go to the ghetto to purchase narcotics. Never know when the “Red Dog” is gonna snatch you up.
This is how I feel after 90% of all documentaries that I watch:
“Thanks for making me aware of how crappy things are for (people group / country / anything) and not giving me any options on how to make an actual difference. Now I feel like $%*@!”
Oh yah, and if I hear “call your senator” one more time I’m gonna shoot the TV.
[...] Blog on Awareness [...]
thoughts of ourselves, being separate from god and everyone. has led to our belief, that we ARE separate. When we believe we ARE separate. We then behave as we ARE separate. Everyone at one point has either asked or heard this question. How can god let this/that happen? (rape, ect…)
WELL, it all stems from separation.
Change what we think.
Change what we believe.
Change how we behave.
We all have the power of god. Because we are all ONE with the WHOLE! The whole being god! See the oneness? The sooner this message is embraced, the sooner the power within can be unlocked! With that said.
Technology advancements, science advancements, medical advancements, mental advancements ect… will be done on demand! We all have the ability! You think our technology is advancing rapidly now? When we embrace the message of oneness. Everything “WRONG” with humanity: ie. WAR, Rape, murder, child abuse, crime in general. Will be done no more. We will understand that we are connected, and what we do to other we will be doing to ourselves! Then a new trend will start we will have compassion for others! Why? Because we will want compassion for ourselves! Knowing we are ONE! We will understand that Being compassionate, loving, joyful, helping, to/for others is also for ourselves! Embrace the oneness and spread the message! Meditation is a very powerful tool, that will help bring about this shift in consciousness! Unlock the power within! Reply with any questions for they are welcome.
If we are “god” then explain death.
what is keeping that heart of yours beating? what started the heart beat, what is telling your brain, to tell your lungs, and all else within your shell, to be alive? what is putting the nutrients in the food that keep your heart beating with energy. what is putting energy into anything to keep anything going?
your logic is convincing and persuasive, but take this quote from President Truman with you… “if you can’t convince them, confuse them…”
you are right that God is not separate from us, in fact He is omnipresent. what you are missing is that there is a problem called “death” and there is a reason why death exists.
you are looking at the injustices of man to man, and actually ironically saying we are making injusitces to the ‘god’ (all people) which in fact you are on the right track but who God is, is not who you say he is.
If justice is not served from your ‘god’ then you have no hope. Even if your ‘god’ comes together, and there is peace, and justice…and tranquility… your ‘god’ has NO power over death.
It is noble to come together, contend to take care of this planet (that we have no control over, really), it is noble and right to desire justice, it is noble and good to contend for the healing of the sick, to be selfless in caring for the weak and weary… but it remains, that we have no power over death.
So, at the end of the day, you contradicted yourself by saying that we make ourselves “separate” when in fact you did just separate yourself from God by rising up in your own strength, in your human frame that WILL DIE, wanting the things that only God can restore and raise up.
I absolutely love your website.

you are a dreamer who smoked too much dope or took too many acid tabs. there will always be war, famine, death and suffering, it is part of life, some people will always harm others.
Imagine how the Senators feel.
Don’t forget Autism.
What?
“This belief allows them to feel that sweet self-satisfaction without actually having to solve anything or face any difficult challenges.”
This sums up Rush’s maxim – symbolism over substance.
Thanks.
The funny thing is that EWB actually goes out to the impoverished places and does hands-on work.
All of these awareness activities do nothing to solve problems. That is why I always take a hands on approach to the worlds ills by playing in charity golf tournaments dedicated to their eradication.
symbolism over substance
This reminds me of a certain presidential candidate.
Barack Obama?
I know a white girl with a tattoo of Africa on her arm. She loves spreading awareness. She buys Invisisble Children bracelets and I’m sure watches the DVD on a daily bases to keep her awareness level up. She doesn’t really care about the children – she just wants to maker herself (and you) think that she does.
How do you know that she doesn’t care? Just because she’s white doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care about the people of color in Africa. Genocide is an issue that effects the world because it can occur anywhere, and when people are aware of the atrocities they are more likely to be addressed.
[...] The first episode of Mr. Internet was a wild ride. I think the content was great, and was surprised that its knowledge of internet memes was broad enough that it offered something to both novices and Web 2.0 experts. Without a doubt the best segment of episode 1 was with Christian Lander, creator of the Web site Stuff White People Like. The site looks at stereotypes in a comical fashion (not racist) and has had more than 30 million visits. Some how I was completely unaware of this site that has now morphed into a New York Times best selling book. I am a particular fan of Stuff White People Like #18 – Awareness. [...]
Not aware ? Madonna , nicole kidman, Angelina Jolie who adapt colored babies , for real ?
Well, presumably, since Kyle knows this person and you don’t, he has more information about whether or not this person actually cares about people Africa. Oh, and it’s black people. Or Africans, whatever. Who the fuck actually says “people of color”?
That’s why white people like Obama so much. When Hillary accused Obama of talking and not actually doing anything, he replied with examples of several famous speeches, and asked her if they were “just words.” White people love that kind of stuff- the belief that making fancy speeches and doing fun things for “awareness” will make a difference, instead of, say, getting homeless people into job training.
That’s nice to know. I plan on joining Doctors Without Borders when I graduate.
That’s why I was insulted when Obama used MLK’s “I have a dream” speech as an example of how a few words from someone can make a big difference. The man is so much more than that one speech, and yet Obama ignored how he dedicated his life to cause and marginalized him. The example was purely to make people who like “raising awareness” feel better about themselves, because, after all, if you talk about raising awareness, you too can be like MLK! /sarcasm

Yeah if I meet another insufferable yuppie who tells me he’s made a difference by buying a $5 dollar Lance Armstrong rubber wristband, I’m going to puke.

Duchess, you’re 100% right. Ridding the world of causes is the last thing “socially conscious” white people want.
Middle School Field Hockey/Lacrosse Teams?!
That’s a new one to me.
Although I did read a few years ago about a Philly area high school girls field hockey team that locked all the freshmen in a bus toilet for an entire road trip as a hazing ritual. Do worse things happen at the middle school level?
Of course, what high school teams travel in buses with toilets?! Unless the yellow ones have been upgraded since I went to school.
Are you really retarded or are you just acting? Either way great performance.
This is the truest one yet. Bravo!
I am aware of a lot of things- but not bothered enough to do anything for or about them…. loose one
hah, i like this one, its so true
I’ve been trying to raise awareness for this site. It is funny, and well researched.
I need to go to yoga now or I’ll be late.
I’m assuming you meant to write Negro. If that’s the case, please try and be a better representation of our race by being grammatically correct.
I, for one, do not believe those are the reasons that Bush went to war. I think he was fully aware of what he was doing and why.
Research has shown that hippies can be used as incredibly efficient source of heat and energy. Their unique combination of vegetarian metabolism, body odor and self-righteous posturing makes for a powerful fuel. The main barrier at this time is that horrible burning hair smell. get a whole pile of them together and you can power an energy plant for days but if one of those suckers is a white rastafarian or even trustafarian, BOOM! you got yourself an environmental disaster that could kill everything in miles. The obvious solution would then be to burn them in a national park, preferably near the breeding site of an endangered species. Thus killing two birds with one stone…
did you see that ? how I slipped in “killing birds” with endangered species? … genius…

I have two things to say when it comes to white people: “Ouch” and “lol”
Clander.. You seem to have resentments towards White America. Feel free:) But back your views up with quality objections.. What you have written is ignoramous nonsense
You mention that it’s often the case that events to raise awareness are put forth in a way that’s appealing and often prestigeous.
Why is it so?? Because in this world, it takes money to get things done. And the goal of someone trying to raise awareness for a charitable cause is to attract people who have the means to contribute financially. Which would involve fancy dinners. It is really that difficult to grasp??
“An interesting fact about white people is that they firmly believe that all the worlds problems can be solved through awareness”
Again, you lack cognizance..
Those who hold Charitable Events are usually aware that by doing so they will not solve the problem in its entirety..
They hold these events to have an impact, however big or small.. It’s a way to do SOMETHING rather than NOTHING at all.. You are doing NOTHING at all by ragging on people who care about their world.
I would consider repealing your post, it an embarrassment for you..
You endorse this post?? I welcome you to elaborate on that
I refer you to post #101.
Other than that, posts from offended honkeys (god that’s old) are almost as amusing as the posts, if only because of their failure to reaslise that this is a satirical site and not meant to be taken seriously.

Aaaw, sweetie. You come across as to wrapped up in your own self-importance to take any elaboration to heart, so I’ll pass. No wait, I wont. Go ahead and raise awareness about, say, pedophiles, so you can sleep better at night. Little Hannah will still get unwelcome visits from dad late at night, but at least you’ve made people aware of it, and you didn’t even have to get your hands dirty! Awesome – for you and your deluded conscience.
I think it’s funny!
This is funny because when I was in high school, there were always a group of white kids trying to make other students AWARE of issues in Darfur. That’s all they did was point out the problem. They were so lame…AND WHITE! and they played ultimate frisbee and drank coffee.

lol that guys funny, because EVERYTHING was won with European “blood and bullets.” Not like Andrew Jackson didn’t screw over the Indians and later during WWII we still helped in communications because the japs couldn’t figure out our language. I just proved one thing out of the countless other things people of different decent did. Only needed to bring up one point to show that EVERYTHING wasn’t done just by Europeans. (also jackass before going and making a statement like that you should probably think for maybe 1-2 seconds)
Well this articke is right on, I just Googled awareness and all i got was sites that sold books, clothing jewels, etc. Meetings in posh places like expensive restaurnas club houses or cruises. I enjoy political conspriacy sites like Prison Planet tv and Infowrs . Even there Akex Jones sells videos, clothes, hats, and th like, and all the board members on the COmments section berate eachother for not physically doing anything to revolutionize the Truth movement such as 911 truth movement.
But what steps would you suggest they take to raise awareness or to physically meet the challenges of our time?

Autism awareness is a big deal now, but my Mom and her friends been involved in the autism society of America since 1985, when I was diagnosed with a then little-known and poorly-treated mental disorder. Since Jenny McCarthy came along announced her 4-year old son had autism and was “cured”, the whole freakin’ media & the celebrities are promoting autism awareness, the new white scourge. +
The three most hyped things in today’s worriesome world: you forgot “global warming”, “new world order” theories and “missing children by pedophile” threats. Not long ago in the 1980′s, everyone was panicking over illegal drugs are a pandemic, followed by the discovery of AIDS and tobacco is hazardous to your health (cancerous and emphysemaic). In 2009, the three most frightening things is : “free universal health care”, “socialist nationalization of banks” and the next terrorist attack, but luckily hadn’t got one in 8 years. +
Canadian-Americans are increasing awareness of the not-so-well known people in the USofA…eh? AP/Gallup Polls find 95% of Americans don’t know, don’t care, don’t understand Canada and never knew the contributions Canadians and Canadians in America did to the world. From the invention of basketball to the discovery of penicillin, and thousands of standup comedians from the great white land of the north, Canadian-Americans won’t be the “invisible minority” they have been. Today will be Canadian-American Awareness Day, because every ethnic group has a holiday or month.+
Jews are always whining about something, Baptists are bible-thumping about sin, Mormons are smiling everyday not on any substance, Catholics are singing in a dead language, Muslims are fighting the infidels living here and anyone religious stereotypes you like to share? +
Wow, thanks for getting it right! After being diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer at age 26 and having “awareness” shoved in my face, it’s great to see someone really telling the truth. You’d have to live in a cave in Afghanistan to not be aware of breast cancer….that campaign is from the 1980′s. Everyone is aware….now let’s make a new campaign focused on finding a cure! Let’s call it: F**k Awareness, Find a Cure!

how about being “aware” that America was built off the backs of all its minorities? White people give themselves all the credit for founding America by “discovering” this land, enslaving its indigenous people and setting up a government and constitution that oppresses these minorities that are still used today as cheap labor (aka slavery) to provide The American Dream for all white people who never had to lift a finger to become wealthy. I think what these awareness things are/should be really about, is recruiting new people into the fold so we can make effective change. I haven’t seen or experienced yet the phenomenon of people backing out saying they “did their part” once awareness was raised.
Of course people don’t *say* they are backing out… they just change their Facebook status, or whatever, but then they don’t actually do anything constructive.
If, instead of posting some dumb status update about the color of your stupid bra, each one of those people donated $5, that might have some *actual* effect on helping stop breast cancer.
[...] [...]
I have NEVER heard of $5 being able to stop breast cancer. Rich people die of cancer… and guess what… they had PLENTY of money…
The purpose of raising awareness this way it to REMIND WOMEN WHO WEAR BRAS (meaning have boobs) to get checked/tested so that if it gets detected on time, you have a chance to get treated for it sooner, and have a better chance of surviving. Of course, if you don’t care about dying tomorrow for some stupid crap you could have been AWARE OF you had then go ahead, and keep hating on stupid bra colors people put on facebook.
THAT’S why you need to be aware. But hopefully your mom, nor your daughter, nor YOU will ever get cancer because nobody REMINDED them to get simple check up at the doctor… Or because you are just too self-entitled, and take life for granted to feel it can happen to you.
Funny to see how some people can only see as far as their noses…
Nothing is worth doing unless it’s for a cause, like yesterdays Bra Color Awareness Day
I’m raising awareness that you are probably dumb.
If all of the women who participated in this bra color thing donated $5 dollars, the total donations would be *gasp* more than five dollars.
Let’s try some real numbers.
Let’s assume that 10% of the women on Facebook participated. Let’s further assume that the proportion of women on Facebook roughly mirrors that of the world at large.
So the CIA estimates that 48% of the world’s population are women. [1] Facebook reports they have 200 million users. [2]
48% of 200 million is 96 million.
If 10% participated, that would be 9.6 million women.
9.6 million women * 5 dollars = 48 million dollars.
Let’s say the turn out was worse, only 5%. That’s still 24 million dollars.
Would you say that either of those dollar figures are insubstantial?
So please, do not add to the gross volume of stupidity in this world by trying to justify “awareness,” over dollars.
It’s sad to see how some people can only see as far as their justifications for self-important laziness extend.

I did my part for humanity by posting my bra color on facebook!
Cancer is a pretty well known disease, i don’t think the problem is lack of awareness.
[...] Awareness. Combine general white guilt induced advocacy with the need for white law students to convince others they really want to use their degree to help others and make a difference and this one’s a no brainer. [...]
[...] horrible things happening out there, things that need to be addressed, and by spreading awareness, these problems are more likely to be fixed. [...]
I wouldn’t say all the world’s problems can be solved through “Awareness” but being aware can be very powerful. Change starts with the individual when you become aware and can move with whole groups of people. I wouldn’t be so bold and make a statement that “government is suppose to magically fix it” What about being environmentally aware (for … See Moreexample)? Compared to twenty (20) years ago, people are recycling more, they are using their own bags instead of plastic bags and are eating more organic foods. This is awareness and yes, because we live in our present system, there are those who use or fight the government system to bring change that will help our ecology (for example). But, those in that position know any change is slow. I don’t think they think the government is going to magically fix anything!!! They are not looking at government as their god. And no, it’s not just white people. Indigenous people have the idea of “awareness” in their belief system. Now, I will watch that video.
SO NOW AWARENESS IS A “WHITE PROBLEM”? Geez, better tell all those other races that dang, now that they participated in an awareness rally everybody is gonna think they’re white.
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE STUPIDEST THINGS I’VE EVER READ!
I think that everything is right! It is hilarious and so true which is what makes it funny!
@Miss Disgusted: relax. it’s a joke.
Like, how many white people does it take to change a lightbulb?
(now y’all come up with a clever punchline)
I literally never get sick of this web site!
Here’s another good one: http://www.SomethingYouShouldRead.com

I know what the writer is trying to say, and although I know it’s funny, and it is, because my God, yuppies and hipsters love to tell the world how “aware” they are and conscious of the suffering world; there is one thing that I can’t help but feel sad about: young white people actually getting off their asses to do something, and we get mixed in with the hipsters. I work in soup kitchens when I can, deliver food, and interact with the families and people I meet. I don’t care whether they’re poor or not, I just want to do something more than sit around and complain about social problems. I know it’s a blog with humor, and I get the joke, I just wish helping people wasn’t bastardized by the yuppies of today.
[...] Awareness [...]
I love the idea of “awareness”. It’s the idea that you can inform people that something is wrong, or something is happening, and they will know about it; you’ve done your part, even if they choose to do nothing. It’s amazing how some people think by, I dunno, wearing Pink, that breast cancer will become a national topic. And that’s another thing white people like: symbolism!
“Like, how many white people does it take to change a lightbulb?”
White people don’t change lightbulbs. They start a facebook group to raise awareness about the horrible, unfair state of growing darkness.
Don’t forget Autism! You have got to be aware of Autism!
Ha! I was thinking about this lately when I read about a guy who is currently trying to climb everest, go the north and south poles all within one year to raise awareness about global warming. Yeah, no one’s heard of that idea. It then gave me the idea to get a sponsored hot tub in my back yard and fill it full of hot chicks to raise awareness for the same cause, or to raise awareness about hot chicks, hot tubs and guys lucky enough to be in the middle of it all.
[...] you’re a “personalized medicine” advocate? What did you do? Link from your blog? Raise awareness? How many people did you heal? Zero? Yah… that’s what I [...]
Best counter troll EVER. Epic win.
Fuck you
“YOUNG!” just another thing that white people adore. Not just ‘like.’
Young is irrelevant. What difference does it make if a person is young or old — as long as getting off their asses to do real work, help etc is involved? Your social awareness is not inversely proportional to your age. And that’s a good thing — means you cannot get away with putting in time at soup kitchens when you are young & then becoming a slug when you are older.
Also
Helping people is not bastardized by yuppies of today or yesterday. I don’t have the luxury of choosing to be ‘yuppy’ but I’m guessing that yuppies could afford the most extravagant pink moron bracelets. And less affluent people wear the Walmart versions. Either way, they are part of the awareness thing.
Of course there are young and old who get out and do actual work — volunteer to teach literacy, walk the streets at night to wake up folks who might freeze to death …
It’s still funny as hell to read awareness and instantly recall how many awareness campaigns I’ve signed up for & hoped real action would then happen — as in organize real work once we hooked up people interested in the same thing. It doesn’t seem to happen any more.
As an aging flower child — one of the targets of ‘young people’ I suspect out of their guilt since I take nothing away from them — I am saddened that nobody takes chances any more. People will not mobilize because they might be arrested. Or is there some other reason that the organizing happens — and stops.

I find it interesting that this is about “white people” instead of “Americans”…just think of how much trouble you’d get into if the article was about “black people” or “oriental people.” It’s a shame that it’s ok to be racist against white people and generalize and use stereotypes, but against any other race it would an outrage.
Other than that, I love the article and think that it makes a great point…we can’t just be aware, we have to be willing to make sacrifices in order to make a real difference
Alicia,
I am white (or caucasian, more accurately) and I really think you’ve totally missed the point of the site. And yes, I think it is OK to make fun of a certain kind of white person. The author of the blog explains somewhere that this is not ‘really’ about white people, but about a certain kind of urbanite cultivated class (predominantly white) that spends their afternoons at Starbucks writing on their MacBook Pros (oops, that’s what I am doing at this very moment).
He also says that you don’t really have to be white to be ‘white’.
If you fail to see the witness and the sarcasm, as well as the acute social critique, well, perhaps you have to give it another try?
By the way, I personally believe it is amply justified to make fun of white people. We’ve fucked up quite a lot, I wonder if you know? (it would be enough to read history books in Africa, South America and Asia to give you a glimpse. Perhaps your history books are a bit, er… how to put it? Biased?)
Its a shame Alicia, that you’re trying so very hard to not be racist and yet you called Asians “Oriental People”. Where I’m from, you’d get your ass kicked for that slip up…
Don’t make fun of Alicia, she’s gifted.
You’re right, she should have used the term “yellow people”.
They are a candy bar in Spain! and you all thought the Washington Redskins football team name was racist. xD
“It’s a shame that it’s ok to be racist against white people and generalize and use stereotypes, but against any other race it would an outrage.”
Quoted. For. Truth.
Sad times we live in, and it’s getting worse.
Why? Do you feel people are being racist against you in particular? Do you suffer prejudice in your daily life?
A. Concerned. Citizen.
I mean i could possibly be stretching here but, “White people” have a let’s say grand history of destroying the culture of “Colored people” and using their racist beliefs to justify it. White people were passing judgements on other members of our race(the human race btw) based on falsely preconceived notions based on skin color. The notions we have of White people are not false, they are true. Every heinous act that can be done to a person the white people have done to people of color, repeatedly. I think they can handle a little stereotyping. Especially this extremely lighthearted blog. Stereotypes do not include everyone of course but all stereotypes have some grain of truth and for White people that grain just happens to be a boulder.
“White people were passing judgements on other members of our race(the human race btw) based on falsely preconceived notions based on skin color…Every heinous act that can be done to a person the white people have done to people of color, repeatedly.”
This isn’t a “white person” thing. Nor were attrocities like slavery unique to “racist Western white people.”
“The history of slavery across the centuries and in many countries around the world is a painful history to read– not only in terms of how slaves have been treated, but because of what that says about the whole human species– because slaves and enslavers alike have been of every race, religion and nationality.
If the history of slavery ought to teach us anything, it is that human beings cannot be trusted with unbridled power over other human beings– no matter what color or creed any of them are.
…But that is not the message that is being taught in our schools and colleges, or dramatized on television and in the movies. The message that is pounded home again and again is that white people enslaved black people.
…Just as Europeans enslaved Africans, North Africans enslaved Europeans– more Europeans than there were Africans enslaved in the United States and in the 13 colonies from which it was formed. The treatment of white galley slaves was even worse than the treatment of black slaves picking cotton. But there are no movies or television dramas about it comparable to “Roots,” and our schools and colleges don’t pound it into the heads of students.” (Thomas Sowell, “Filtering History,” Creators Syndicated, Inc., April 27, 2010)
Sowell’s book ‘Black Rednecks & White Liberals’ (Encounter Books: 2005) is also an excellent read on the subject. This kind of resentment towards a race doesn’t help anything.
I never stated that atrocities were never committed by other people. However, there hasn’t been anyone that has done more damage to the culture of others to the extant that “White people” have. And by that I mean all “White people” that have done damage to another group of people based on color.
I don’t see “racist White Westerners anywhere” anywhere in my post. Though they certainly are the first group that comes to most people’s minds, they are only the most recent group.
Now i have read a lot and been told stories from men and women that have experienced the later slave days and the early days of legal “freedom” that wan’t enforced. There are also no accurate records of how many Africans were enslaved not just to the Americas but to other parts of the world thanks in part to British slave-trade. So just from what i know i highly doubt that there were more “Europeans” enslaved than Africans and that were treated any worse than African slaves.
Roots is pretty graphic but there are two things you should know: some slaves were treated worse and not everyone has seen Roots, most have heard of it, but not seen it.
Also i would like to emphasize that while there is a great deal of history “recorded” about the maltreatment of people of color(not just Africans) that there are things which were done that we may never know.
The only race i recognize is the human race. Identification by physical attributes is sometimes useful but is far to ambiguous to mark set groups of people.
Resentment? Excuse but if many people of color were able to know a full history of their family I’m sure there would be more than resentment.
The affects of slavery are self-perpetuating and it is very hard to break the cycle in today’s world. For people of color to know what it truly means to be equal and for white people to not have to feel bad for what their ancestors have done.
But to do that maybe a little resentment is needed, because people of color are being put down everyday. And many white people feel guilty of and on themselves when they find out what role someone as recent as their grandparents had to play in that maltreatment.
Thomas Sowell’s articles seem interesting enough so i will give some of those a read and see what he has to say
By contribute you mean join a facebook group?
you fucking jewfag. Are you aware that non-whites see you as white? Look at all the fucking goldsach’s fags and what not. A bunch of greedy fucking jews. Go fuck yourself!
whats wrong with not being a developed country?
they don’t love and feel pain and enjoy life because they aren’t like us?
Let’s give each other a chance—on an individual basis—I know, I know, but this seems to be a lighthearted blog. No one has done anything to anyone here… or at least hadn’t done anything till now.
I’ve seen some things, but (and because of that?) I’ve got a clean slate. Unless someone is sowing hatred right here and now, he-himself, I can’t get mad at him. It’s becoming a little bit… fun (I know, that sounds weird, huh?). Maybe like when you’re playing a video game that used to be so hard, but then you finally start winning some levels.
Yeah, there are some crazily huge vicious cycles going on on this Earth. I guess all I can see is that the only time things can change is when each person himself really wants to do something new, with no one else pushing… no, the main thing that I see is that there is already too much suffering in this world. Anyway, the problems are big, but we’re not helpless to change them—the biggest challenge I can imagine is changing myself. But when people do that, everyone says, “He really inspired me”… so I’ve got to think there’s a bit of that die-hard hope in everyone.
Oh wellsies, I didn’t come to add to the preachiness or start some finger pointings, so I will just can it! (Don’t worry about it, as I’m not quite sure what I’ve said here either… I am long supposed to be in bed.)
Enjoy.

Are you aware that this site is racist to an insane degree? Its funny. But still….come on now. A white guy couldn’t make a site or write a book about black people like this and get away with it. Enough of the double standard already; it alone keeps us socially unequal. Until society fully understands this concept (which I doubt it ever will), we will always be divided on some level.
Um, Brit? Have you ever seen the author of this blog? Christian Lander. He’s like the whitest, red-headed white guy ever. Besides, it’s all tongue in cheek (and mostly true, honestly). Lighten up.
So true, I salute thee!
This isn’t unique to white people. The day after the Supreme Court made a ruling against affirmative action, the NAACP led a march against young black people’s use of the word, “n*gger” (more properly, n*gga’) & there wasn’t a single n*igga’ in the parade. They were all African-Americans.
It’s an American thang’.
The most popular thing for awareness activism is Autism. From the likes of Autism Speaks to the ASA (Autistic Society of America) and the millions of new cases, some have compared the Autism pandemic to the fear of AIDS in the 1980s when the disease was new and hardly not understood by the public at the time, and the high incidence of Polio in the ’50s before the vaccines to prevent polio were invented put an end to that crisis.
Another move is to officially do away with the “R word” (RETARD). A new federal law took effect by the efforts of a little 10-year old girl by the name Rose from Annapolis, Md. she is strucken with Down’s syndrome. Her parents’ allied are in a grass-roots movement to eradicate Retard as a hateful word and the effort to make federal authorities drop the word “retard” and substitute a new term “Intellectual disability” has paid off, Obama signed it to law.
And the last but not least, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s are on the rise, due to an aging population. When more of us are over age 40 or 50, the rate of developing two brain-damaging diseases will rise along with it and more cases are expected said the US CDC (the Centers of Disease Control). Senior citizen groups like the AARP are involved in a quest to find a cure for Parkison’s and Alzheimer’s +
Some of us whom grew up in the 1990′s remember the cartoon series Captain Planet and the Planeteers promoted eco-activism, young viewers were urged to get involved in environmental causes and learn ways in how to save the planet. Does anyone at all feel offended by this list? Is it taken as simply humorous? I mean it is written by a white guy, so I guess that it can be seen as a witty joke instead of a judgment. These stereotypes don’t really translate into oppression.
I think this is brilliant!
Awareness is NOT bad… but it is the easy way out, to fake yourself and other to believe that you and them are really doing something useful, (not saying there is nothing useful there), but proportionally one does NOT deserve the praises, glory, resume ticks, etc. they receive for simply raising awareness.
*Guy who volunteers at a soup kitchen should receive a LOT more praises than a guy who raised awareness about hunger one night by sitting in his lawn and eating canned soup with his buddies or something. And he should not feel as accomplished as the Guy who did real work at the soup kitchen … but in our society, people who raise awareness receive a lot more praise than they deserve.

So I guess what you are suggesting is that we become scientists, doctors, missionaries, councilors, soccer moms, a different type of councilor and/or political activists and if not give up because awareness is nothing other than a self serving white-person feel good thing. Sure I understand that this is probably satire and I wish I could compete with the self loathing, inverted white-racism that makes for such good funnies, but alas, my guilty gleaming white butt would rather imagine making a difference than to mock or dissuade those that do. Unfortunately my funnies are pretty limited since I prefer making fun of inbred hicks, republicans and apparently now you which are all the same thing really, you god fearing Palin lover. I admit that some “awareness” could remain… oh what is the opposite of awareness again…? Oh right… Ignorance, I admit that some things could remain ignorant, but then everyone would write like you and that would make me white man guilty enough to have a “hang your scrotum outside of your pants day” to raise awareness for Clander er… I mean ignorance…

How is changing a Facebook profile picture supposed to help support a cause?…
It raises “awareness”: http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/01/23/18-awareness/…
hahaha I KNOW, right !?
my friend told me she changed her profile picture to a cartoon to raise awareness for child abuse and I immediately pointed her to this page ;]
Promoting awareness doesn’t just mean bringing up the issue. It means providing solutions or promoting someone who is doing good work to work against the issue.
This facebook child abuse awareness is quite, quite useless. But I guess people think it’s fun. And that’s why they do it, not for the awareness bit.
I totally agree , being aware is doing and investigating the where the money goes when you do give, does it go to the needy ? Look , listen and do call if you suspect child abuse, elder abuse, etc. We need to get involved beyong the keyboard. Helping those who really need it .
Awareness of a problem starts with you, in your mind, in your heart and in your life. Child abuse is a problem. Doing the cartoon thing brings it more to the forefront within ourselves. I know that being a parent can be challenging at times and our tempors get out of hand sometimes. This challenge, if nothing else, brings the problem to mind and helps us everyday “good” parents keep in mind to control of our tempors as we deal with our children. If I knew of a child being abused you better believe I would tell someone about it but the reality is that most times we DON”T know this dirty little secret that is happening next door. I hate that any time someone tries to do something good that there is always that negative person who can’t see outside of their little box and want to berate people for trying to improve the world.

i considered typing this all in code so noone could understand it, but i’m a hypocrite and i don’t give a shit how pious or not-pious u think i am so here it is in semi-coherent englisch.
wanna hear some truth? i curate a lot of art shows. often, i can’t get venues or media or artists to get on board until the show is “raising awareness” for whatever cause it happens to be that month. so my choice falls between raising awareness or not paying my rent this month. isn’t that special?
ps i dont have a point. this is the internet.
pps there’s some things that need to be brought to the public’s attention. like transsexuality. do u know that transsexuality gets lumped in with the gender critique known as transgenderism and also with homosexuality (in the form of that retarded catch-all “glbt”), although transsexuality is neither of these things but rather an in vitro hormonal imbalance whereby either an xx fetus is exposed to androgens in the brain or an xy fetus is not exposed to those androgens in the brain (or is exposed but insensitive to those androgens)? stop talking about it like it’s being the most gay you can possibly be or like it’s a critique of gender roles, because it’s not – it’s a birth defect.
You are absolutely right, many people do take this approach to activism (and not just white people either). Awareness raising is supposed to be about educating and informing, not just saying “hey this problem exists” with some ambiguous stunt.
I am white. And I enjoy learning about what I like.

I’m a grammar freak, but I don’t see where apostrophes are misused. Maybe quotation marks, but not apostrophes… Just feedback.
oh wait, now I see you were replying to a reply. I got it.
“This challenge, if nothing else, brings the problem to mind and helps us everyday “good” parents keep in mind to control of our tempors as we deal with our children. If I knew of a child being abused you better believe I would tell someone about it but the reality is that most times we DON”T know this dirty little secret that is happening next door.”
So maybe we should do something to educate people about the signs of abuse. This would certainly help us detect this “dirty little secret” more than a cartoon character profile picture would. What is a cartoon profile picture going to do? make us and our friends think about that cartoon. the connection between our experiences of a happy cartoon filled childhood and the traumatic memories of an abuse victim is not clear enough for the internet.

Clander,
You are the textbook definition of a racist white american. And the sad thing is that you may not even realize it. 99% of all White Americans are racist. You are the perfect example of White Priviledge and institutionalized racism. You’ve probably never heard of it. White people couldn’t see racism if it hit them in the side of the head. So don’t feel guilty or anything. Just keep profiting and writing more racist books for all the racist white americans out there.
The white man’s struggle is a superficial one. He doesn’t need to fight racism or poverty or anything any other minorities in america do. So he just makes lists of things he likes for his own amusement at the expense of other minorities. Your blog is clearly racist. White people can’t see racism because they’ve never experienced it but every other minority in america can see how much of a racist you and everyone who reads it is. You are exposing the true racism in america today.
I’m pretty sure there is a missed note of sarcasm in this reply. Regardless, ALL humans have prejudices, not saying that’s justification, just a fact. Anywho, love the stats, very sound reasoning.
99% of White Americans are racist?
Sure sounds like you’re mad. I know people of all colours who make more than most “racist white americans” do. I think you’re being over dramatic and uncouth.
If you ask me, most of the racism stems from everyone consistently playing the race card. All the time. If we all stopped pointing fingers and blaming each other, there’d be a hell of a lot less shit flying around.
As for superficial struggles, yours is one as well. If you believe you are so stuck in some ditch that the white man dug for you, then you’re just making excuses for being lazy and not putting in the effort.
Seriously guys, it’s 2010, I think we can stop moaning about how somebody with money doesn’t deserve what they have, and how people without money are victims. Stop victimizing the world. Open your mind.

I think your on to something here but I have to agree with Einstein. If you are comfortable with the status quo (as many white people are) than awareness is not your friend. If you have any interest at all in problem solving, then awareness is not the enemy. I think what many people are drawn to is short term self-interests and white people in-particular have guilt about it and try to convince themselves that they are otherwise.
hi there to the author,
i’m white and i raise awareness!
first, no we don’t say raising awareness will solve all problems. but it helps a lot–for example, when i go into schools and talk about human trafficking. i’m just talking, whiting it up like the little white girl i am. but guess what i come away with? survivors, you fool. tips that lead to investigations that lead to arrests. it’s happened too often to count.
so sure, mock raising awareness. knock yourself out. or maybe you can have a better time picking your nose or washing socks. but abolitionists who raise awareness save lives and fortunately do not believe in a word you write.
peace!
I think that you are misunderstanding Einstein here. I’m fairly sure he is referring to paradigm shifts, rather than awareness.
From the very first sentence you set up a straw man, a false premise, then have fun knocking him down. It’s not a “Fact” (about white people is that they firmly believe that all of the world’s problems can be solved through “awareness.”)
Also, define “white people” while you are at it.
OK, so this is supposed to be humorous. Instead, it just shows you up for being malicious and stupid.
“The white man’s struggle is a superficial one. He doesn’t need to fight racism or poverty or anything any other minorities in america do.”
Really?
“White people can’t see racism because they’ve never experienced it …”
Double “Really”?
“99% of all White Americans are racist.”
Where do you get your statistics? I’d love to know.
Seems to me that you are the one who needs an eye opener. You seem to think that white people see no hardships.. ever.
But I’ve met people who use the same rhetoric you do and I know that they are closed minded and there is no changing it. I feel sorry for you because for you there will never be progress, and you’ll be left in this endless cycle of shit.

By far my favorite “Stuff White People Like” entry.
It summarizes the fundamental hypocrisy of the petit-bourgeois mentality that the series mocks.
He is really criticizing the contradictions of this particular class mentality and simply using the word “white” to denote it. Another phrase he could have used is “Latte Liberalism.”
You’re an IDIOT! So it is obviously your belief that no one of any race other than Caucasian participates in “awareness” promotion. Since when did this become a “white only” issue? Personally I think you are on track in your description of “awareness” however how it became a “whites only” thing is beyond me! Keep on going you bunch of racist, bigotted assholes…….after all, we all know that the only race it’s ok to slam, make fun of and degrade is the white race. Gee, I wonder what would happen if there were a site like this dedicated to slamming blacks, or Asians, or anything but whites? And then you want to blame the continuing problem of racism on whites. You people are promoting the hate right here…… Think about it.
It’s a satire site, you twat. Go to Google, type, “Stuff black people like,” then relax with your Budweiser. You are the wrong kind of white person. Go away.
Careful honey, your lack of upbringing is shoeing itself!
1. If you mean my lack of humorless white supremacy, then you would be correct. Continue drinking your Budweiser.
2. I think you mean, “showing.”
I have no further comments for you or reflections on your education. You do a fine job revealing that yourself.
Amazing! You must have spent all afternoon with a dictionary and thesaurus attempting to show some sort of intelligence! What a shame your past comments are visible, and cause that to be exactly what it is….. A feeble attempt! Why not shut up while you’re behind and stop making intelligent white folks sound like we are all a bunch of inbred imbeciles?
Amy, seriously, shut the fuck up. This is the internet – everyone has already seen enough canned internet insults to last a lifetime.
Coming from a white man this is completely true.
Funniest thing I saw was when KFC sold pink buckets for breast cancer 2 years ago. There was studies done to indicate that fried food was a contributing factor to cancer.
Obviously, KFC did it to boost sales so customers actually thought they were doing a good thing by buying a bucket of fried chicken.
Kony 2012! Let’s do this. A kit costs only $30! whoohoo! The organization behind this is making $13m in revenue this year.
Yes, raising awareness is just such an oh so terrible thing to do. Because some people would like to make the world a better place. We buy bracelets and t-shirts because that’s what we can do. The government is what can change things, but we can make the government do these things if we demand it as a people.
Because some of us want to believe that we can change the way the world is and how it’s run and the causes people should be aware of. I think any person of race, gender or religion would want to be apart of something, if they thought for just one moment that they could help change the world and the peoples lives who are affected by the terrible things that happen.
So yes I’m going to buy bracelets and t-shirts and put up posters and do what I can to make a difference in this world. I’m going to raise awareness and attempt to make a difference, so that when I leave this world I know that I attempted to make it a better place to live.
Thank you! I wholeheartedly agree. Awareness is never something that should be taken lightly. If enough people become aware, then more and more decide to take action. If nobody knows, then it doesn’t seem like such a big problem does it? But once everyone becomes aware, the problem grows and shows itself to the public. I’m going to buy the shirts, bracelets, and posters, and I’m going to wear them proudly.
I’m not a politician; I don’t have a large voice in the world. But I’m going to do every single thing I can to make it known to others.
And I hope that more and more decide to voice what is going on in the world.
Kony 2012. Make him famous.
Ah, shut the fuck up. Yeah, awareness isn’t the solution to all of the world’s issues, but it godamn helps. Sure, there are millions of superficial people talking about Kony or whatever issue because it makes them feel good, but who cares? Would you rather they were gushing about Justin Bieber?
Thank you for proving this post’s point 100%. This awareness just makes you feel good with no more effort on your part than a cut and paste. Why not Kony 1986 when he was just as much of a problem as he is now? Because white people want attention.

THIS. I specifically came here in response to Kony2012. An argument from a friend who I encouraged to be skeptical of this whole push essentially replied, “But… but… awareness!”
what? write in english please
Suck my cunt!
It’s not just awareness though is it? The Government are already aware of the situation in Uganda with Kony, as the recent short movie has made clear.
It’s about support, those at the head of this movement such as Jason Russell are working towards ending the current situation in Uganda for thousands of children, and to do that they need support, they need support so they can go to members of the Government and say “we have millions of people behind us, they know this needs to stop”. They need that support so the Government will listen and take action. This isn’t a cry out for attention, for “awareness”, as I said, the Government are aware of the situation, and aware of that this campaign has followers, that’s not what this is about any more.
You may want to research Invisible Children further.
They have REFUSED an external audit.
They drive fancy cars.
In their own Internal Audit over half of the donations are unaccounted for.
32% of what was accounted for actually went to helping the children of Northern Uganda
Their video KONY 2012 mentions nothing of the war crimes and humanitarian crimes committed by the Ugandan Military.
KONY is known to have been inactive since 2006.
If you truly want to help the children of Uganda send your donations to Doctors Without Borders. They will ensure that 90% of your donation goes directly to those who need it, and no one is getting rich off of the charity.

Thank God for loving caring white people. This isn’t an attempt to make whites look dumb is it? So where’s the “black people’s efforts in this?
Heh – good to see I’m not the only one who thought of this SWPL entry with this whole Invisible Children/Kony 2012 kerfuffle.
This post is the fourth thing I thought of after seeing KONY 2012. The first was why do they keep using the word Africa to talk about Uganda, second was this looks like white savior complex and the third was asking myself why the filmmakers weren’t being honest about everything.
Dude. You’re on the Internet, which has a wealth of information, and yet you seem so very proud to come to uninformed and nonsensical conclusions. And then you throw out a racist remark to boot. I understand that your itty bitty feelings are hurt, but that does not in any way excuse your ignorance. This world is complex. Try finding out how starvation is perpetuated, puppet governments, colonialism, the exploitation of Africa by Europeans and Americans with everything from diamonds to gold to oil. Also try and understand how aid has been enabling corrupt governments for decades.*
Black people do a lot to help themselves and others. How you came to a contrary conclusion I can only guess has 100% to do with your racism and nothing to do with a real attempt at research.
*Unless you intend to pay me to do research for you, then I will only give you the hint that information on those concepts can be found with the help of the search engine known as Google.com.
That reply was to Rob on March 8, 2012 at 1:35 pm.
Awareness is a necessary but not sufficient condition for progress.
Damn you white people and your awareness campaign!!! now everybody know’s who i am!!!
Fucking hilarious.
I can’t believe there are people that actually believe what you are writing. At least these “Kony2012″ people are trying to do something about it, regardless of if that’s the way you yourself would do it. Raising awareness is important and clearly it’s working so maybe you should stop sitting here behind your computer screen and either join the cause and share the video or STFU.
I helped in real ways like going to Africa, providing care packages and donating to real charities.
You are the dumb bitch behind a computer screen who thinks this was written for Kony 2012 and not a truthful article that stands today. The article was written in 2008 and is correct.
Did you even READ this article? It advocates actually DOING something and not just SHARING the video like you you ignorant cunt.
Epic.
You must be a high school or college student. Ha ha. You really think some Joe Schmo sitting on his ass on Facebook or Youtube is going to fix the root of them problem after watching the Kony video? Wake up!

The sheer amount of butthurt generated in these comments confirms the truth of this article.
MIKE: totally agree with you
Wittgenstein: Lols, that sounds like something he would say, and you are right as well — technically speaking. But I want to emphasize what you’re ostensibly sterile logical statement underscores: that these fad-driven people who think they’ve accomplished something by “spreading awareness” equate the necessary with the sufficient.
They think that spreading awareness is enough. The paradox is that spreading awareness undoubtedly does something, but what does that mean? Is “something” in this context meaningful in any way? I don’t think so. When everyone seeks to only “spread awareness” and just leave it at that, then what is accomplished is essentially nothing.
This article hits the nail on the head: Awareness in this context is “process of making other people aware of problems, and then [thinking that] MAGICALLY SOMEONE ELSE LIKE THE GOVERNMENT WILL FIX IT.”
Be honest with yourselves trend-hopping posers, you’re acts of “spreading awareness” are purely masturbatory.

I agree awareness on it’s self doesn’t solve problems, action is required, but to all those who reduce initiatives like Kony2012… if we’re not aware of the problem, how can we know there is something that needs to be solved?
And yes the Kony2012 filmclip is a very clever made film, using all the tricks film makers and advertising professionals use to influence us… but isn’t that the good thing? that those things can be used to make money, sell stuff but also make people aware of a lot of young people who lost their youth and self esteem because of the way some people choose to make war…
Yes claiming all white people firmly believe in awareness as a tool to solve world problems is factually supported. It is also quite true that white people do not exist in government, and that this “whiteless” government does indeed fix problems inspired by awareness. It’s also true that every awareness campaign does not contribute a single thing to society or its intended target.

Who cares if the gym my boss goes to is selling wrist bands to raise money and awareness about cancer? She is an ignorant, arrogant good for nothing supervisor in general, so if the wrist band people have: “targeted her in her environment” and squeezed some money out of her, its more than I have ever been able to do. I say good on ‘em.
She was never going to do anything anyway, but the wrist band has raised her awareness, but being a vain and sub-literate supervisor, she will pick up on yr “not cool’ policy and not buy the next wristband. And we all go back to doing nothing.

copied from my buddy Ed>>
AMERICAN “SHEEPLE” = A “CONFEDERACY/MULTITUDE OF FOOLS” – SO TRUE FOR HAVING ELECTED SUCH AN INCOMPETENT, UNQUALIFIED PERSON AS OBAMA, along with his radical-left, secular, socialist, America-hating regime! ****Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic. Someone over there has it figured out. We have a lot of work to do.
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.”
haha… the google ad at the bottom of this post was for “autism awareness products”

Who knows you may be able to change the world , regaurdless of what race you are.
Yeah, I’m African American but this site was a disappointment. The author is neither “spiritual”, nor “aware”, nor “enlightened”. Well… What’s race got to do, got to do with it! What’s race but a second hand color! Wow looks like lots of people on here that are posting their comments are trying to run with this and just bad mouth white people. So I ask really what have you ever really done???? White people have done a lot of good and have put up good fights to help with all kinds of stuff. I will have to argue this and say its wealthy people are the self righteous awareness givers, I’m sure of different races. People get over yourselves its rediculous that you would have to whine about completely stupid shit when you don’t know how hard people work to raise awareness and fight to help people of all races. I do agree that ‘people of all races’ that raise awareness just to have a big party and show are rediculous but come on now its not just white people.
All of this finger pointing! HA! What does hate or love have to do with it?
Do not point at me with a bugger on your finger!
Humans spend their time pointing their finger at what others do to mask their own Bad Deeds!
Stop complaining, this guy just pointed out the very true fact that white people like to raise awareness and walk away.
Well it is better to be known for something than not be known at all I guess hahaha!
Im going out tomorrow and raise some awareness over the first wrong doing I can find someone doing and then im going to walk away to the nearest store buy a Coke and have a smile! hahaha
