Often times if you ask a white person about where to travel, you will get a lot of responses. But if you ask them about New York, white people will go nuts. They love the city universally and all either live there, have lived there, will live there or want to live there.

White people like New York because it has artists, restaurants, a subway, history, diversity, plays, and other white people. It literally has everything white people need to thrive! The only thing it’s missing is nature, but Central Park is right there, and since you are walking all the time, you are outside!

If you are from New York, tell this to a white person. They will instantly be interested in you “what part of New York? and you are really from there?” When they inevitably tell you about your home town (“I know this great italian place…”) you should respond by saying “man, I thought place was only known to New Yorkers.”

Another secret fact about white people, if you are in group setting and the topic of New York City comes up, find the highest ranking white person and say “oh, are you from New York?”

To them, this means you are calling them cultured, cool, and urban. They will respond with something like “oh, well, I’ve spent a lot of time there,” or “I lived there for three years.” You will have instantly become more popular than all other people in the group.

Another thing, white people tend to think that the city is solely made up of Manhattan and will never leave the borough, unless to go to Yankee game or Mets game. A few artsy ones will consider Brooklyn also. But us true New Yorkers (the ones born and raised here) know that the city is made up of 5 boroughs, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Manhattan. Staten Island is debateable. =)

This is so true! I lived in Manhattan and hardly wanted to venture out to the other boroughs BUT, once I did, I loved all of them.

This is similar to when people think of California they associate it with southern california, LA, Hollywood, Orange County. I was raised in Orange County and defintely never imagined 40 billion shows being made about the place. It is pretty, fun people, nice weather but good lord, there are other places worth filming.

Ive come on this to the conclusion that the reason white people like all of the shit on this website is the following:
If you got it like that why not experience more with your life.
Shit I golf, snowboard, rockclimb, mountain bike, live in manhattan, drive a fat asS bmw suv, fuck asian women, have plenty of black friends, got sweaters and motherfuckin t-shirts that I’LL wear on a plane to San FraCisco if I damn well fell like it. Shit Ill Even invite my lawyer to my beach house on a sunday for coffee maybe some tea while we read the fuckin New York Times. Yes the Liberal rag that sweats Barack Obama. After that we will indulge in some microbrews on my vintage sail boat.

When I get Bored ill travel the fuck where I want probably to snowboard somewhere usually Utah the whitest fuckin state there is. Ill take in some wine before I watch a film at sundance while I am there.

Just for a challenge I will go to a farmers market get some organic shit go home and order some sushi. You see I am trying to get in shape to run a fuckin marathon. After I finish the first thing I am going to do is shut of my i-pod loaded with free music, grab some bottled water and spark a fat mother fuckin spliff!!!!

YEAH I LOVE BEING AWARE OF DIVERSITY.

HOWEVER THE IRONY OF THIS WHOLE THING IS BEING WHITE FOR ME ONLY FOR ME!!! kICKS BIGTIME ASS!!

wow. reading these comments, two things are obvious

#1 venom toward upperclass 30ish lemmings. Are you paying attention, midwestern hipsters? ..this is the treatment you can look forward to. Stay where you are and make the best of it.

#2 the misplaced sense of ‘ownership’ WRT city arguments. It’s rather silly. In all likelihood, ‘your’ city isn’t your first, and won’t be the last. It’s just where you’ve planted yourself today. You probably didn’t have much hand in making it what it is, either. Why argue on behalf of ‘your’ city, as a hanger-on.

What other city can you be born in and for your entire life consider yourself a tourist. If anybody dislikes NYC please stay home!!This way we I dont have to dodge your slow asses walking 3 side by side holding hands on our narrow sidewalks at 5:00 p.m. For everyone else please visit and enjoy!

New York is the center of the world, anyone who denies that just wishes they lived there or knew more about it.

Dayton, Ohio on July 8, 2008 at 4:24 am

I don’t know anyone who wants to lives there. Everyone hates it.

You don’t know anyone who wants to live here because you live in Dayton. I was born in Ohio and I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Being an individual is frowned upon, tolerance towards people that are different in ANY way is nonexistent, and everyone is always shoving their “born again christian” religious beliefs down other people’s throats. In New York, I know my neighbors, and I actually LIKE them! (and we all like the fact that we are different.)
I’ve had the choice of trying cuisines from around the world, not just Denny’s, The Olive Garden, and other “all you can eat” establishments featuring “sneeze guards” and free parking.
When I go to the movies, I actually have a chance to see the small independent, well written film that never makes it to Ohio because nobody there wants to see anything but the latest “blockbuster” served up with a dumpster filled with popcorn, and a garbage-can-sized Diet Coke.
I have a car, but I LIKE walking everywhere and experiencing my city. People in Ohio don’t walk or take public transportation unless they can’t afford a car, or they’ve lost their license due to D.U.I. charges.
There is theatre, opera, symphony orchestras, EVERY rock/pop group plays here, there is live music somewhere most nights of the week, some of the finest museums in the world, amazing libraries, shopping, etc., etc., etc. So, do you know WHY that is? It’s because people aren’t interested in supporting the arts in places around the U.S. like Dayton Ohio.
Therefore, all the artistic/culturally motivated people from around the country who are unappreciated and unsupported by their local communities come here, to New York City. New York wants them!
So, PLEASE don’t come to New York if you “hate” it, and I promise NEVER EVER to darken Dayton’s doorstep.

“everyone is always shoving their “born again christian” religious beliefs down other people’s throats.”

Unlike in New York, where everyone is trying to push their “New York is better” belief down other people’s throats

You are the biggest ass-clown on this board. I doubt you have even travelled in the Midwest (a week in the summer when you were 5 to visit your grammy doesn’t really count), yet expect everyone else to visit New York and worship the inhabitants. NYC is just one huge phallic symbol.

YES! I KNEW YOU WERE FROM THE MIDWEST!

Actually, I seriously doubt any of us who live here want our sidewalks any further crowded by fat, waddling Midwestern tourists who can’t find their way around and always seem to ask directions to the nearest Olive Garden!!!!

Well, obviously they’re not cool, hip, or urban enough.

Why do New Yorkers care so much if other people like their city or not? That’s why this blog is about you. It’s just another town. Nobody cares about the “gentrification” in some neighborhood in your town except other people in your town, and white people who love your town for no good reason. But here you are on the blog talking about some neighborhood issue as if the world would care. When I think of New York (and I have been there once), I just think it’s another city but with lots of tall buildings. What makes it stand out are all the white people who go on and on about it all over the internet. New Yorkers don’t seem to be aware that there is anywhere else in the world.

Anothe thing white people like: Looking Down on People from Flyover States.

I swear only White People really care about where you live and whatever cultural cachet it gives you. Everyone else cares about what you can do and what kind of person you are.

this is not where i was born but way too go brookllyn

And holy shit I’m reading a couple other New Yorker’s post and want to ask them WHAT PART!!!??? and talk about food for 5 hours.

Must……move….to…next…subject….
