Often times if you ask a white person about where to travel, you will get a lot of responses. But if you ask them about New York, white people will go nuts. They love the city universally and all either live there, have lived there, will live there or want to live there.

White people like New York because it has artists, restaurants, a subway, history, diversity, plays, and other white people. It literally has everything white people need to thrive! The only thing it’s missing is nature, but Central Park is right there, and since you are walking all the time, you are outside!

If you are from New York, tell this to a white person. They will instantly be interested in you “what part of New York? and you are really from there?” When they inevitably tell you about your home town (“I know this great italian place…”) you should respond by saying “man, I thought place was only known to New Yorkers.”

Another secret fact about white people, if you are in group setting and the topic of New York City comes up, find the highest ranking white person and say “oh, are you from New York?”

To them, this means you are calling them cultured, cool, and urban. They will respond with something like “oh, well, I’ve spent a lot of time there,” or “I lived there for three years.” You will have instantly become more popular than all other people in the group.

wake up call! this blog is NOT RACIST. What it does do is generalize about one particular racial group — whites. all in all, if this was a racist blog, it would technically not be one as whites are the highest ranked privilege group in America, if not the world (barring other factors such as one’s sexual orientation, gender, and any other intersectioning trait that would fuel oppression).

there’s my two cents. hope this is helpful for you all! now, don’t go out there again and push different terms onto people without the real knowledge about how our society functions.

i do find it funny how this blog does reinforce a sense of hypocrisy by “oppressing the most privileged group.” quite witty would say…

I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of the landmarks, etc., that New York has to offer. However, other than that, I could really give a rat’s left testicle about New York. Oh wait, I’m not 100% white. Maybe that’s why? Who knows? Man, I love this list! I’m so glad my hubby introduced me to it. I feel special like I’m a part of some secret society. Sorry if I’m rambling. I have a new baby so I don’t get much entertainment lately!

I FUCKING LOVE NEW YORK CITY!

Unless of course you are actually from New York, then you become God. (I am, and sadly, it’s true when I’m out of the city).

Brooklyn didn’t get its own post? What about “overpaying for Brooklyn real estate”? I wrote a post about that last month, prompted by an NY Times Real Estate section article about a hipster couple that $450k for a 590 square foot apartment, “The Hipster Premium”.

Unreal…isn’t it?

In the famous words of my 90 year old Jewish grandfather who moved from Williamsburg to Florida fifteen years ago:

Poppy: “Take me back there…I want to see it”

Me: It’s supposed to be ‘up and coming’ now.

Poppy: “Nahh…still looks like a shithole to me. Let’s get out of here and grab some fresh Herring”.

The man has spoken!

This is so true. Manhattan is really just a giant dirty cash register but everyone loves it. I love it too but it is undeniable that every white person I know loves New York. It really does seem like the coolest place, the center of everything, when in reality there is so much more in other cities. And for Runninwolf, who left that horrible comment. Go to hell, not Atlanta, because with that kind of hatred, that’s the only place you belong!

It is true… but remember, Manhattan…LA…New Orleans… any melting pot is seen by many people as interesting, not just white people. I mean, if all of the “people of different ethnicities and cultures” that have a choice didn’t see it as interesting, beautiful, rich in unique/finely made products, music, etc etc too….. wouldn’t they be living in… say… Kansas?
Different cultures/places are interesting. If we were all into our own selves and hometowns… life would be kinda boring, don’t you think?
However, I do get slightly annoyed when people name(or city)-drop for mere attention. Agh. Although I think most people just do it b/c it’s an interesting subject… like the weather, elections, the news.
Either way, humans are curious by nature about things that are different than what they are used to.

Ugh no..because they can’t afford to pick up and live wherever they want. There is a reason urban areas are the way they are.

new york is gay! atlanta is where its at! again i say it! new york is gay, and it produces the most fags per capita and just sends them to san fransisco

Stop the hatred! As if there was no GLBT community in Atlanta. Just go hang out at Lenox mall or walk around the shops near Piedmont park and you’ll see. Change your bigot attitude or you’ll be leaving Atlanta soon too.

Regarding the homophobia, that is a really stupid and outdated thing to say. Furthermore, you should correct your spelling and punctuation, lest anyone else who reads your comment prejudges your lack of intelligence: in this case, “it’s” requires an apostrophe because it is a contraction for “it is.” If it were possessive, it would simply be spelled “its.”

I am white, currently live in New York (Manhattan, to be precise), and I love lording it over all my white friends who are non-New Yorkers. My residential status has catapulted me to the top of their ranks!

FUNNY ….GAY IS EVERYWHERE…NOT NY AND ATL …THE WHOLE WORLD…THATS BECAUSE U CANT STOP IT….MAMMALS WILL BE MAMMALS….

That’s a lame and ridiculous (also bigoted) thing to say–especially since Atlanta is the southern hub of the gay community. But, you are correct, Atlanta is a very large place with a lot of traffic.

i love this blog and this book. All you people are so stupid for arguing over whether it is racist or not. this blog is picking out ironic depictions of the way white people in the western world associate with each other and the things they claim to enjoy. Caucasian westerners make up a small percentage of the world but we act as if we are the majority without realizing it. This is targeted at any white middle class citizen and many of the things said are hard to deny. Just laugh about it and find the irony :)

UGH I hate ALL Cities.
