#28 Not Having a TV

The number one reason why white people like not having a TV is so that they can tell you that they don’t have a TV.
On those lonely nights when white people wish they could be watching American Idol, Lost, or Grey’s Anatomy, they comfort themselves by thinking of how when people talk about the show tomorrow they can say “I didn’t see it, I don’t have a TV. That stuff rots your brain.”
It is effective in making other white people feel bad, and making themselves feel good about their life and life choices.
Though these people often fill their time by talking with other friends who don’t watch TV about how they don’t watch TV, looking at leaves, cooking, reading books about left wing politics, and going to concerts/protests/poetry slams.
Generally this makes them very boring and gives you very little to talk to them about. It’s important that you NEVER suggest they are making a mistake or that there is a value to owning a TV. You should just try to steer the conversation to allow them to talk about how they are better than you.

Being a poor student leaves me without one! No sports for me other than those played at my university.
I don’t have a TV because I don’t have time to watch TV. Lots of free time must be fun.

Haha, this reminds me of my grandma. She is a little eccentric.
One time at a restaurant, she kept saying to everyone at our table, “I just saw the last episode of Lost last night! I’m going crazy! I have to talk to someone about it!”
But no one at our table had seen it. So she actually called over our waiter and said, “I’m sorry, but I just have to talk to about Lost right now. Do you by any chance watch it?”
And the guy who looked to be in his 20′s and had long hair said, “No, I actually don’t even have a TV right now.”
Then my grandma said, “Oh. You’re one of THOSE people.”
Best story ever.
This one is sooooo funny, but I do it for a different reason. I thought I would miss it but I am never home anyways…
I go to sports bars or a venue to watch a game, the theater to go to the movies and online if I really am jonesing.
I don’t think I am better, I just truly like being out of my house more than sitting around inside all the time.
AND when I am, I can download a whole season of Lost from
I tunes and when I am hungover, just start rolling through them non-stop without commercials…
TV sucks…the internet is waaaaaay better to get the same content with no commercials…
Comedy Central rocks…online.
Whiteys like us have youtube, Hulu, the WB online or DVR components in our PC’s. It’s the new way to watch movies, shows or music vids. What ever happened to MTV? They got M2 on some cable systems. “Video killed the radio star” is a catchy nostalagic song when in fact shock-talk radio killed the video jockey (or MTV-VJ) star in the early 90s. +
hahaha well I guess it’s true from me. I have a tv (xbox/movies) but I have Justin.TV if I want to watch anything on cable.

Amen, but I have an ASUS laptop with a 26″ LG monitor attached via DVI-HDMI cable. Hooray for TV on DVD
Wow…I am glad I have a TV. Though I don’t subscribe to paid television. Video games and DVD’s are better in my opinion.
I didn’t have a TV for a year and a half and it was hell on earth and I missed Lost.
I am 1/4 white and I don’t own a tv.
Before we met my husband who is white also did not have a tv.
Most people think we are weirdos.
1/4 white people don’t have their own TV network/ channel yet, that’s why. Here comes the racial ethnic humor: The Blacks do, the Hispanics do, the Asians do (in Sou. Cal. we have a few Korean, Chinese & Vietnamese TV channels), even the Iranians’ satellite TV channel based in the San Fernando valley in Farsi, and sadly, I wish the Cherokees who had a language with its own alphabet got on the TV band wagon the same way KMEX, Telemundo & BET had. +
