#28 Not Having a TV

The number one reason why white people like not having a TV is so that they can tell you that they don’t have a TV.
On those lonely nights when white people wish they could be watching American Idol, Lost, or Grey’s Anatomy, they comfort themselves by thinking of how when people talk about the show tomorrow they can say “I didn’t see it, I don’t have a TV. That stuff rots your brain.”
It is effective in making other white people feel bad, and making themselves feel good about their life and life choices.
Though these people often fill their time by talking with other friends who don’t watch TV about how they don’t watch TV, looking at leaves, cooking, reading books about left wing politics, and going to concerts/protests/poetry slams.
Generally this makes them very boring and gives you very little to talk to them about. It’s important that you NEVER suggest they are making a mistake or that there is a value to owning a TV. You should just try to steer the conversation to allow them to talk about how they are better than you.

The preposterous portrayal of blacks in recent years has turned me off TV. Even the Orkin man was black in their ad the other day. If that’s the audience TV is after, they can have them – I’ve got better things to do than indulge this ‘blacks are just white people with dark skin’ nonsense so in vogue now after the Obama euphoria.
White people believe only blacks watch TV 24-hours a day/ 7 days-a-week??? I altered BET on they could create 100 new digital subchannels, like BET news, BET sports, BET movies, BET classic soul music, BET sistas (female-oriented), BET Latino (the Spanish-speaking Black populaiton long left ignored), BET talk (Oprah owes this one), BET-BBC (Black British-oriented), BET-TBN (the Black evangelical Trinitarian) and BET kids zone (Bill Cosby thought of this one). +

I don’t watch television how people normally do. I like the idea of on-demand, choosing my own programming rather than letting networks decide for me. This is why I watch exclusively online. I also despise commercial interruptions.

Actually I think not having a TV is more of an asian thing. Most of my friends didn’t grow up with one.

Go attend the fundamentalist Christian churches preached the “evils” of television, yeah the ones who are primarily white Southerners living in big oil-fed SUV-based suburbs. Mormons have “family night” on Mondays (No TV allowed), Seventh-day Adventists have 3-hour a day “3ABN” programs, Jehovah’s witnesses block 95% of the TV channels and Pentecostals only watch “G-rated” videos as a “family together”. Second time around on the post (watch with the reply button…fingers slip). What ever happened to TV news of the 1960s exposed the reality of war to living rooms? The Vietnam war was what it is: a war, but the “wrong kind of war” unlike previous wars actually endangered US national security. The Civil rights movement was broadcasted on TV in a way more people thought intelligently on the problems of African-Americans (the 1963 Birmingham protests when white officers had pit bull dogs and water hoses struck the crowd). And don’t forget the power of CNN in the 1980′s: the Tiananmen square massacre and fall of the Berlin wall. +

I don’t ever watch cable tv, but will watch a movie every week or two. I don’t tell anyone about it because that would make me a friggin retard. Nobody gives a flying swinging hoot what you do with your free time or what I do with mine. As long as your tv watching isn’t costing me tax payer dollars as I support your lazy arse, I could give a squirrels step-mothers diaper change. Once a guy at work said, “I don’t watch those shows, I don’t even watch tv” to another worker and I chimed in, “and….” I then followed that up with a vivid fantasy of me throwing him over the balcony for being a douche.
I own a T.V. that I don’t watch but rather use for video games. Games are far more entertaining and games+systems are expensive as it is without paying for cable. I’m sure many people share this sentiment as well.
