This was a little disappointing for me in that I live in one of the top 5 resorts in the US.

Anyway, the real snowboarders and skiers are dirt poor. We get most of our gear for free. We work for the mountain or shops that will give us passes and we live in 2 bedroom apartments with 4 people so that we can afford rent.

Also, the costs you put on were way off.

Boots are like $200 new, a board you are looking at around $350 for an ok one, then bindings are around $150 for ok ones.

The white people that come into town we usually call gapers cause they look like idiots and have no clue what they are doing.

Oh, and Japan loves snowboarding too. Absolutely amazing riders come out of there.

Go to Mt. Rose. Our Falcon's ski team head coach is black and he's an AMAZING skier.

On a totally different note, and this is sort of directed as an open letter to the owner of the blog and also people who'd like to post their own opinions) I've found myself disagreeing or not being able to identify with a lot of the aiomatically presented material on this blog which led me to ponder two questions:

1. Is it possible that this is about white people of a given age?

2. Am I (not) white?

I suspect the answer to question 1 is that yes, this, for the most part, only applies to white people of a certain age. My girlfriend is that age. My girlfriend is basically characterized by EVERY entry on this blog. It's anecdotal evidence, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

The answer to question 2 raises some more questions. I am in fact, half latino but I was raised in a culturally 'white' home in the 70's and early 80's, characterized at the time by 'things white people like' appropriate for that era (powder cocaine, captains chairs, piano key ties, converse all-stars) and also timeless white people things (marijuana, huge musical collection). Is being 'white' a cultural phenomena or is it genetic? If it is genetic, does that explain why indie music and ironic tattoos do not appeal to me? Why do I want to go to Japan so badly? Why do I value snowboarding and my huge music collection so much? Should I stop doing white things?

I need help.

As funny as that was and as accurate as it was, I still think snowboarding is an insane sport. Aside from all that stuff, there's no better feeling than zooming down a hill at insane speeds. It's very exhilarating!

Close. I would never pay less than $500 for a board and $200 for boots.

Oh, and Black people either can't ski/board or don't like the cold, which is why it's a white thing.

It can be an expensive sport if you're super into it and have your own gear but it also doesn't have to be. For example, I live in Reno and Lake Tahoe is only 40 minutes away. A lot of kids will work at a snowboarding resort then they get a free pass for the season. Then, usually one of their friends will work at a snowboarding shop and they'll loan you gear for free. Or, a lot of the resorts around here will have deals for locals and college students, sometimes even free lift ticket days. I've never seen a black person either ski or snowboard in Lake Tahoe. I have seen a TON of asians though, they usually snowboard. I think skiing is usually thought of as an old-mans sport, ski equipment is more expensive than a snowboard.
