#39 Netflix

We all know white people love film festivals, but what about movies that don’t make it to a film festival, or weren’t in the local film festival? How do you get accesss? Thankfully white people have Netflix.
If you don’t know, Netflix sends you DVDs in the mail and you get new ones when you send the old ones back.
White people are absolutely crazy for Netflix for a number of reasons. Firstly, because all of them are convinced that there is a global conspiracy to keep good, independent, groundbreaking film from mainstream distribution (multiplexes, blockbuster, etc).
To them, Netflix (in spite of being a for profit company) is a brand new way for independent filmmakers to find an audience. By subscribing, white people believe that they are changing the film industry, supporting innovation, and contributing to a cultural revolution in film.
If you see a group of white people and you need to break into the conversation, a good thing to say “hey, is anyone else thinking that Netflix shipping is getting slower? I’m doing this PT Anderson thing, and I’m only up to Magnolia! What’s that all about?” They will relate, and talk about their own Netflix queues and how they are trying to get caught up on French New Wave.

I have Netflix and I love it. My local video stores along with Blockbuster suck. I’m more into 70s Hollywood, Foreign and documentaries, therefore, Netflix is better for me. My queue has like 400 movies. Just don’t answer any of those emails they send you asking if you are satisfied or if you received your video. That way they’ll think you’re pissed at them, and they maintain good service.

I misspoke many comments ago when I dissed a commenter for using the word retard as a verb. I meant to say as a noun, as in, “You are a retard.” That is not just grammatically incorrect but it’s unacceptable language, IMO.
I love Netflix because
1. Have you seen the price of gas lately?
2. My Dad taught me to work harder or work smarter. Why make the effort to go to the movies when the movies can come to you?
3. Better selection than Blockbuster.
4. I can make out, fart, pause to take a piss, and watch in my underwear in the privcacy of my home. I suppose I could do that in the theater as a way of fighting back with all the crying babies, cell phones and people who can’t shut up during a movie.
5. If I don’t like the movie I didn’t waste 8 to 10 bucks, depending on where you live.
6. TV is CRAP nowadays. 700 channels and nothing to watch.
7. I can watch a series from beginning to end without waiting a week between episodes.
Yes I’m white. I’m also old and fat. Bite me.

I LOVE netflix, because it’s cheap as hell, and living in NYC, i get my movies next day, not next week like some unfortunate people here…PLUS since i don’t have a tv, it’s a great way to pass the time and catchup on all those shows commercial free!! (I’m not white btw, and it SUCKS that i don’t have a tv because my roomies are too cheap to help pay for cable…but really i was still using netflix when i had cable, for the foreign flix and subtitled anime! you gotta love it!!)

wow. I never realized this…but…I am a white person. Sure, before, I thought I was just caucasion, or European, or whatever. Thank you, great sirs, for this EXACT posting. It allowed me to accept my whiteness, which is the first step. Instead of moving on, I intend to fully embrace my roots. C’mon Ugg boots, shorts and Whole Foods! Let’s go!
Why are white people suddenly offended for being called white? Now they’re fucking “European?” Get over yourselves! Lately it is not cool to be white so they came up with another name for themselves. White people love to be “cool” which is very difficult for a white person. They are few & far between… truth hurts, doesn’t it?
