We all know white people love film festivals, but what about movies that don’t make it to a film festival, or weren’t in the local film festival? How do you get accesss? Thankfully white people have Netflix.
If you don’t know, Netflix sends you DVDs in the mail and you get new ones when you send the old ones back.
White people are absolutely crazy for Netflix for a number of reasons. Firstly, because all of them are convinced that there is a global conspiracy to keep good, independent, groundbreaking film from mainstream distribution (multiplexes, blockbuster, etc).
To them, Netflix (in spite of being a for profit company) is a brand new way for independent filmmakers to find an audience. By subscribing, white people believe that they are changing the film industry, supporting innovation, and contributing to a cultural revolution in film.
If you see a group of white people and you need to break into the conversation, a good thing to say “hey, is anyone else thinking that Netflix shipping is getting slower? I’m doing this PT Anderson thing, and I’m only up to Magnolia! What’s that all about?” They will relate, and talk about their own Netflix queues and how they are trying to get caught up on French New Wave.

This fall, the Xbox 360 will be able to stream videos from Netflix. When that happens I’ll cancel my cable subscription and get all my TV online.
I was just watching Netflix on my Xbox for the first time ever. It was the best day ever.

I’ve used it off-an-on… depending on where my job takes me and what is available to me in that area.
Using NetFlix doesn’t necessarily mean that the customer is renting oddball movies… they have “normal” movies too.
Their service isn’t that great after your first couple of months… they “throttle” your service and then they really suck.
I am puzzled by your “being throttled” comment. I have been a Netflix subscriber since December 2006, and the only delivery delays I have encountered arose from one of two reasons. One is Netflix’s policy of shipping a DVD from an alternative distribution center when it isn’t immediately available at the nearst one. The other delivery snafu arose earlier this year when their computerized shipping system died, and took down their e-mail notification system with it.
Personally I consider my Netflix membership to be a permanent part of my life.

K, did you do any digging before making such an obtuse comment? The writer is a white dude who is making fun of all us collective whiteys and our wonderful quirks. Seriously, some people… we all just need to chill out. Society is far too concerned with political correctness nowadays. Say this was a black writer. Who cares? It’s still funny; it doesn’t matter if he’s black. A funny is a funny, no matter where it comes from.
Would it be funny if this white guy also wrote a stuff black people like? No. OPEN racism has been a 1 way street in this country for quite some time. That has a lot to do with the “white” people mocked on this site.
