#63 Expensive Sandwiches

Having already covered breakfast and dinner options, the question remains: what do white people like to do for lunch? The answer: expensive sandwiches.
In most cities, if you need to find a cache of white people get yourself to a sandwich shop. Generally these places aren’t open for dinner, have a panini press and are famous for their bread. There are always vegan options and the selection of meats and cheese are strongly European.
The waiters and waitresses in these places are highly coveted by the white population. They are not quite as cool as bartenders, not quite as snobby as coffee shop workers, but still artsy, young, and more than likely to be a musician/artist/writer (since they only have to work from 11-3).
If you are in the position where you need to take a white person to lunch for business or pleasure, saying “I know a great sandwich shop,” will always bring out a smile. The white person will then tell you about the great sandwich shop in the town where they went to college and how they had a crush on a waiter, or that there was some special sandwich that they always ordered. This will put the person in a good mood.
It’s important to note that this type of restaurant is best for business or friendship situations as it is very neutral and does not carry connotations like Sushi or Breakfast.
These sandwiches generally start at $8.99. Remember that whenever a white person says they wants to go to a sandwich shop you are looking at at least a $15 outlay after tip and drink, $20 if the place has a good selection of microbrews.
Also note: white people will wait up to 40 minutes for a good sandwich.

dude this is so true!!! i went into potbelly’s the other night with my friend and we are both hispanic, and we were the only hispanics there!!! everyone else was white!! but hey potbelly’s is amazing! I LOVE WHITE PEOPLE & POTBELLYS!!!
Potbelly’s is actually downright cheap compared to some of the other places mentioned. I went to the U. of Michigan, and everyone raved about this place called Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor. I went there a couple times, and the food was decent enough, but not so much as to justify spending $12 for a freaking sandwich.
Sandwiches are delicious. I would pay $23,783.94 for one. If made correctly.
I would pay 13.99 for that sandwich and not a penny more. Oh it’s multigrain? Ok fine 14.99.
So… I was in Panera the other day. It was lunch hour in Redmond, WA (near the Microsoft campus), so there was a sea of white people (and a few Indians) in line and seated. I was waiting for probably 20 minutes before I got my salad to go.
While waiting for my order to come up, I swear to god I heard the following line. This is line which, if I hadn’t heard it personally, I would assume someone had made up for a blog like this. But I promise you, it’s true.
Three white folks at the table. The girl on one side picks up her complimentary fresh mini-baguette (which is served with most everything there), and utters the following line. Mind you, she did so without a hint of irony or self-awareness in her voice. She was dead serious.

And as she said the second line… She literally tore off a piece of her baguette…AND EXAMINED IT.
Luckily my order came up shortly thereafter, because I could barely contain my chortles at this point.
She learned that from “Ratatouille.”
