please do not let "perfect" be the enemy of "good". recycling, as described in this article and practiced by many individuals, is ultimately worse for the environment, because it doesn't address the larger problem: over-consumption of the world's resources. however, a single line stating, "recycling is worse for the environment than throwing trash away," is very misleading. we need to encourage the good behavior, which is putting goods back into the cycle, and work on the negative realities, fossil fuels, mindless consumerism & the easy-way-out mentality. what we, informed individuals, need to do is change the system.

many say that more pollution is caused by the transporting and recycling of these goods than is economically or ecologically viable, but if what if we move away from fossil fuels & constantly strive to use less. and there should be no excuse for our use of so many virgin and/or toxic materials or our use of something like a landfill. our goods should be manufactured with an end result in mind, that result being it's conversion into some other good. it sounds impossible & idealistic... but when we made landing on the moon a priority, we did it in less than a decade! anything is possible if we really set our minds to it... and their are millions of minds to choose from!
