White people are VERY comfortable with the idea of going to South Africa, but ONLY Cape Town. It grants them the credibility of saying they studied abroad in a developing nation while actually just living in one of the most modern, Westernized, whitest cities of Africa.

That law school better be T-14 or you have about as much chance of doing “international law”* as Dick Cheney has of being voted “most lovable man in America”.

*Note: White people love “international law” but they can’t actually string a cogent sentence as to what that means. Thankfully, you are Mexican. So maybe you do know what it means beyond a faint idea of…um cross border something? Treaties?

You could’ve just said “I have a good job”, adding (attorney) was a very white person thing to do. Plus, being an attorney is not a good job. Spending 80+ hours per week at an office when the rest of the world gets to spend time with friends and family is not “good” it is hell.

You are so brave! Thank you for letting all of us know how special your study abroad experience was and also that you made a Black, oops, sorry I mean African-American, best friend on this trip! How fulfilling! How unique!

I know right!? Europe is so strange and unfamiliar. It’s like a war ravaged, third world continent. It is sooo amazing that you still made it out there and learned to be culturally tolerant.

You are a special flower and we are all proud of you! No doubt you are going to go off to law school in 4 or 5 years and become an “international lawyer”. Whatever that means.
