im not american, im turkish. i stayed in us for 3 months. i met a geek and became friends with him. and to me he was ok, you know, not self confident and awkward somehow, but ok. if he lived in my hometown, we would have liked him. or at least we’d have left him alone. so this highschool stuff seems sooo ununderstandable to me. the cruelty of youngness is natural yes, but this has become cultural. unfortunately we’re becoming a bit like that too. (im not trying to say that american culture sucks of course there are also many things i like.)

so what im trying to say is you dont have to like everyone but you have to be nice. human rights!! otherwise you become a sadist!!!

haha, I’m sorry but based on your attitude toward the “popular kids” and “shitheads”, your lauding of the “creative/intellectual students”, and the fact that you didnt go to prom once, I’m willing to bet you weren’t a “middle” kid. You were an art freak, a math nerd, or a band geek who resented kids who enjoyed high school, and so you told yourself that you were better/ were smarter/ would be more successful than them ( ” [we] would grow to change the world in some small way” ) and still can’t get over an unpleasant childhood.

My personal memories of high school were nightmarish. All I remember is my face in the toilet and my ass in the air. My so called friends said that what i felt in my ass are just very hard twinkies..

Not everyone’s high school memories are pleasant, sweet or bubble-gum. It’s a part of learning more about becoming an adult after you stopped being a “child”. The blogger was in HS back in the 1980s, when the nerd was the outcast. Same goes to the Goths of the 90s and until recently, the emos are picked on or avoided like the plague. +
