I don’t know why I decided to read this, I suppose I can blame insomnia and my interest in humor and rugby. But this whole string of comments is comical. I’m an american female, half-white, half-indian, who has played at a fairly high level in rugby as far as women’s rugby is concerned in the states. I enjoy american football… grew up watching the vikings (yes, well… dissappointment. Farve… on our team? Throwing quick short passes midfield and costing us a run to the super bowl… so painful). Anyway, I personally prefer playing rugby. It’s neither for brutes or sissies or any of that nonsense. It’s for athletes. And american football is also for athletes. They wear pads because it’s a different kind of tackling, generally with, pound for pound, more pressure (or, as the case may be, kg for kg. Using a specific to the U.S. unit of measurement doesn’t mean I’m ignorant of other countries’ uses… it just means I’m in the U.S. How often do you do a conversion before posting an internet comment?) I am of the opinion that rugby is more demanding in the sense of physical exertion/cardio because I play union and thus there’s lots of running, contact, and pushing yourself off the ground between running and contact. That said, women don’t get an opportunity to play american football on really any level above casual, so I don’t really know. And please recognize that while many Americans make big prats of themselves on the world stage, saying that Americans are characteristically ignorant is a generalization. Any group of people is going to have a vocal minority that doesn’t represent the whole. I’m embarrassed because of those people, but it helps me appreciate that I shouldn’t make generalizations about people I don’t fully empathize with or understand. That said, this is a website filled with generalizations. So just recognize the humour (did you see what I did there?) and the fact that despite cultural differences, we probably have much more in common. It’s the human condition.

It’s funny because im from Australia and im a huge rugby fan but we get shunned by the white people community because its only played by ‘thugs’ and ‘private school boys’. You wouldn’t catch a white person dead in a jersey. They do however love their world cup soccer and also American games that never get played in oz like baseball. Its interesting how they adapt their principles to different countries.

Well he is talking about team sports, I don’t recall the US winning soccer, handball, volley ball, grass hockey (not even ice hockey). You did get Basket ball I think (after losing the world cup) I’ll grant you that…

“Now Australian football is an extremely white persons sport”-… Clearly never played Rugby(leauge or union) in Australia… Good point on the fact Union has an internationally recognised competition while the US has things like “the world series”…that ironically only occurs nationally due to the fact the rest of the world doesnt give two fucks about sports taken from other countries and tweaked so America can finally get somewhat compitent at a team sport… oh wait… the rest of the world is starting to get good at even the sports you invented… shame

I love this site but I hate how you clumped this into a thing hipster white Americans like to do as if it’s just some thing to LOL do when you’re bored. In New Zealand, you will will get slaughtered six times over if you came into any game with that attitude by eight, six foot seven fat Tongans who can sprint 100 metres in 10 seconds… And that would just be a on lazy Saturday afternoon. I’m Maori and grrrrrrrrr, I am raging so hard.
