#104 Girls with Bangs
June 27, 2008 by clander
If you see a white woman and you are trying to figure out whether she is liked or just merely tolerated by white people, the best thing you can do is get a quick look at her haircut. It is a known fact that white people love women who wear their hair with bangs that hang straight down.
A number of very popular white women have worn this hairstyle including Joni Mitchell, Jane Birkin, Jenny Lewis and every girl ever photographed by Vice Magazine or the Cobrasnake. (Note: it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with these two things as they are both beloved by cool white people. Follow up note: these same things are hated by cooler white people).
Many people associate this type of haircut with children and people looking for the most efficient way to get hair out of their eyes. But for white people, this simple haircut makes a bold declaration by saying that the wearer is artistic, deep, and has probably dated a guy in a band you like. Of course, as with many things loved by white people, simple often means expensive and these haircuts usually cost upwards of $100.
It is essential for you to know this haircut is more than a mere fashion statement– it is an important cultural marking. Throughout the world, many cultures feature ceremonies to announce that a girl has become a woman. For white people, the haircut-with-bangs is an important symbol that a female has completed her transformation from a nerdy girl to a cool woman. In fact, if you went to high school with a nerdy white girl who moved to a big city, there is a good chance she will show up to your high school reunion with this haircut.
When you are introduced to a group of white people, it’s a good idea to befriend the girl with the bangs. She’s probably the most popular.

I’ve worn bangs almost my whole life! I have a high forehead and I’m also a cosmetologist…I find most people, no matter the color of their skin…wear bangs at some point in they’re lives….it’s really not an issue in the cosmetology world….there are the classical haircuts and styles that without bangs just don’t work….too funny to even suggest it’s a white thing….who wrote this farce?
I guess (or hope) this blog is meant in a funny manner..otherwise it would be racist. Bangs are worn by all people from every culture and country. Some hairtypes fall straight for the bangs, but most need to be styled…it is a -trend-, and there were times when bangs were seen as ugly and for the “nerdy girl”.
PS: I think it is a little arkward how Americans tend to categorize into “white people, black people, asian people, spanish people…green people, pink people..it is annoying that everywhere you go someone is trying to figure you out and categorize you…:(
People all over the world categorize based on color. . .keep it moving.
No, this is a scientific study. Didn’t you read the ‘About’ section? And there is no arguing with hard facts. You are absolutely mistaken that anyone but those ladies of the Caucasian persuasion wear straight cut bangs. Your comments are offensive! Not categorize people? Pshah! Categorization is the very foundation of science.
I personally think this hairstyle is very sexy.
I used to have fringe and was I popular? Nooooooooooo
Cause you got no game.
cultural translation needed please…
are “bangs” the fringe part of the haircut on the forehead or the dangly bits over the ears
the plural thing is s bit confusing
Same as fringe in the UK
do bangs accentuate american’s stupidity?
Does the act of making stupid comments about a person’s nationality make you feel better about being short, chubby, crooked-toothed and passive-agressive with verbose tendencies and an inherent racist inclination that hinges on megalomania? Your majesty?
Grow up, chaps. The UK is the 51st state of America. Let’s not start slinging racist insults at each other. We’re relatives.
A response with all the subtlety of a shotgun blast. I salute you.
You mean, like how your inability to capitalize and difficulty using an apostrophe to make a possessive accentuate your stupidity?
No, I don’t think they do.
Does lack of oral hygiene accentuate your horrible teeth?
bangs are for those who need to cover up their flaws, but it can also accentuate the beauty of one’s features.
No bangs actually seems immature and childish to me. I don’t like it. Most of the time it seems too lifeless, especially when parted in the middle. Just too childish for me.
I’ve wanted bangs for years. I feel inspired.
I’m open to making fun of white folks (I’m one), but I’m not ready to give up this girl’s bangs. Bangs are good-for white people’s sake.
Bang bang.
