All of the white people complaining that there aren’t any jobs should come work on farms. The pay is more than minimum wage, the conditions are really not as bad as they make it sound on TV if you’re not a wimp and can handle using your muscles and getting a few scars and sunburns. And you might get to work with really awesome Jamaicans, who are, by the way, getting paid the same amount as you, only they also get full medical coverage and free housing. I’ve worked on a fruit orchard for the past two years and every time I hear people on the news talk about how hard farm work is I wonder why the hell they are trying to scare americans away from perfectly good jobs. although, i think part of it is that you have a lot of time to think freely and discuss opinions and ideas, and that means you might try to do more things for yourself instead of waiting for the government and other power institutions to sustain you.

I grew up on a farm, too, and we worked our tails off. To this day I refuse to go apple picking with my white friends, and every year I get treated like a renegade for such refusals.

However, I wear a pea coat, have bangs, love hummus, write in Moleskines, use Apple products, don’t own a TV, have had several unpaid internships, and often try to make people feel bad for spending nice days indoors. So, overall, I am as white as charged.
