“‘Black Guy’ livens up Saturday Market” by Kyle Odegard
Corvallis Gazette Times, June 1st, 2008
Summary:
Corvallis resident Jeff Oliver sets up a booth at a Farmer’s Market to make a comedic and social statement about diversity in the region. Some white people are offended, but need to find a way to show the reporter that they are not racist. If only there was a way that white people could do that in a single sentence…
Best Quote:
“Sherry Littlefield of Corvallis said the booth was unnecessary. She and friend Ron Naasko said they have black friends, and would be voting for Barack Obama for president.”

This site is great! I have no guilt about being white. Mostly, the guilty white liberals embarass me and should not be considered white. Perhaps “clear” is better for them, as they claim no color at all!
Sorry, only his hair is black. Kinda reminds me of Obama. Probably raised by white folks.
What about loving getting stuffed to the gills with black cock…not just for friends and photo-ops?
Why hasn’t jungle fever earned an entry yet???
HELLLOOO???? I have never dated a White man in my life yet! Don’t tell me I don’t love dark cock!
I am laughing so hard I am crying!!!! This site rocks!
BTW I’m biracial black/white….so what can I say- very perceptive.
It’s probably most funny, because in the US, “white” is considered normal and with the exception of certain fringe groups- most white people do not think of themselves as white. They seem surprised when it is pointed out to them. It is almost taboo in many circles to notice whiteness, even though it’s attitudes, preferences, and common traits are define acceptability.
Hence, the shock and humor of the blog. I can NOT wait to read the book either. My interracial family will get a big kick out of it too.
Yes white guilt is possibly real- but more likely cluelessness- mainly unintentional.
That’s why the white people that really “get it” about discrimination virually become pariahs because they become so angry and it…instead of sublimating the injustice for years, as we of color Must do- in order to be accepted at all.
My 2 cents worth. Truth and forgiveness. The US and most developed nations are extremely hostile to colored people as a group- but tolerant and kind towards individuals. That’s why you can have a war on the black man in the justice system. It’s pretty evil but only Jesus can teach someone to love their enemies and forgive those who harm them. Otherwise it’s a vicious cycle of hatred and it never ends until one or both parties are dead.
If America was honest about the (intentional )supression of blacks as a group here and abroad, we would have to shed our cherished belief that we are the most moral country on the planet…
I swear… I just found this site and I absolutely love it. As a black american, I am totally not offended by it like most are. I love it!!! Keep up the good work guys!
LOL! I am white and this is so true! I made a student film in Oregon, and I’ve never seen a whiter place.
Probably the best SWPL spotting ever.
Well, that guy in Corvallis sure ain’t blacker than me–he’s brown! What a fraud
I should set up a booth next to his booth with the sign “Meet Blacker Guy” or something.
OK, I’m a white guy who works with a lot of black people…just happens to be the demographic of the area where I work. I was standing in the hall one day talking to a black woman about a unique dish my grandmother made with tomatoes and cornbread. While we were talking, another black woman passed by and overheard part of our conversation and yelled “I love cornbread, and barbecue!”, the two women continued to converse about their favorite foods as I watched and listened to them. A middle-aged white woman rounded the corner, posted herself against the wall and proceeded to profess her love for collard greens, fried chicken, and ribs…all while putting on a pseudo-ebonic tone. I was so embarrased I could feel my face turn red. What had started as a normal coversation about food had just been turned into a sideshow and she may as well have been in blackface. True story.
Just relax! Just using the word “ebonic” could be considered racist at this point. Can’t a White person even say the word “watermelon?”
What I see here is a person with White guilt. I don’t see the Blacl ladies you speak of submitting complaints here - just you. You got embarrassed because you think it SHOULD be embarrassing for people of all colors to enjoy food of all kinds.
I wrote a song about it.
